Falcons Win 38-28 for Eighth Straight Over Akron

Senior running back Fred Coppet led the Falcons to two first-half touchdowns with scoring runs of eight and six yards, and the Falcons led 14-10 late in the first half. BGSU's defense then forced an Akron fumble, which they recovered at the Zips' two yard line. Ronnie Moore swept right into the end zone on the next play, and the Falcons led 21-10 at the half.
In the second half, Marcus Milton recovered an Akron fumble and returned it 76 yards for a touchdown and a 28-10 lead. It was BGSU's first fumble return for a touchdown since 2014 in their last trip to Akron. However, the Zips responded with 18 straight points to tie the game 28-28 midway through the fourth quarter.
Jamari Bozeman helped BGSU's cause with an interception that gave the Falcons possession in Akron territory, and they turned it into a 27-yard field goal for a 31-28 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, the Zips failed to catch a short kickoff, and Matt Robinson fell on the ball for BGSU with 2:18 left in the game. Donovan Wilson cruised up the middle for 22 yards on the next play to seal a 38-28 win.
Wilson (119 yards) and Coppet (116) combined to help BGSU rush for 218 yards on 46 carries. It is the second time in 2016 that BGSU has had two players over 100 yards rushing in the same game, and the team rushing totals are the second highest of the season.
The victory is the second of head coach Mike Jinks' career and his first over an FBS and MAC opponent. The Falcons are now 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the MAC, while Akron dropped to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in the MAC. The Falcons next game is Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPNU against the Kent State Golden Flashes. The contest will be held at Doyt Perry Stadium in Bowling Green, Ohio.
