BGSU Women’s Golf Moves Up One Spot at the Rio Verde Invitational

Rio Verde, Arizona – Bowling Green carded a team score of 301, +13, on Saturday to move up one place on the team leaderboard after two days of play at the 2016 Rio Verde Invitational hosted by Western Michigan University at the White Wing Golf Course at the Rio Verde Country Club in Arizona.
The Falcons followed up their first round score of 310, +22, on Friday with a second round team score of 301, +13, to move up to 14th-place overall with a two-round combined team score of 611, +35.
"We are really proud of the way the team continued to fight today," commented head coach Stephanie Young. "There were a lot of great things happening. It was a group effort and we look forward to one more day of competition."
Lily Bartell dropped three strokes off her first round score of 77, +5, to shoot a second round 74, +2, on Saturday and moved into a tie for 27th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 151, +7. The senior was more consistent over her second set of 18-holes, carding three birdies and 10 pars on the day.
Carding the low round of the day for the Falcons was freshman Erin Fahey with a round 73, +1. Fahey, who finished day one with a round of 79, +7, climbed 30 spots up the leaderboard to 34th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 152, +8. The freshman had one birdie and a team-high 15 pars on the day.
Mikayla Baer concluded Saturday's round of play in a tie for 59th-place overall, as she recorded her second straight round of 78, +6, on Saturday to give her a two-round combined score of 156, +12. On Saturday, the junior carded a birdie on hole No. 11 and totaled 11 pars over the 18-hole round.
Senior Hannah Lewis struggled on day two turning in a round of 82, +10. Lewis, who had one birdie and eight pars on the day, will enter Sunday's final round of play in a tie for 70th with a 36-hole score of 158, +14.
Making the biggest stride from day one to day two was sophomore Madelynn Swank, as she wrapped up play on Saturday with a round 76, +4. After cutting 11 strokes off her first round score of 87, +15, Swank finds herself in a tie for 88th overall with a two-round combined score of 163, +19.
Toledo and Wichita State each carded team low rounds of 294, +6, on Saturday to claim the top-two spots on the team leaderboard heading into the third and final round of play on Sunday.
Toledo took sole possession of first-place with a combined score of 592, +16, while Wichita State leaped two spots to second-place with a 36-hole score of 594, +18.
Northern Arizona (596), UMKC (597), Eastern Michigan (600) and Bradley (600) round out the top-five teams on the leaderboard.
BGSU is one stroke ahead of both Illinois State (612) and Western Michigan (612), four shots in front of Ball State (615) and 19 shots ahead of Seton Hall (630).
The final round of play is set for an 8:30 a.m. MST (10:30 a.m. EST) shotgun start on Sunday, Feb. 28.
