Who is your hero and why?
My mom. She is the strongest woman I know.
What is your favorite thing about BGSU and why?
The people here at BGSU; there is a great sense of community here and I love that.
What would you sing at Karaoke night?
I would definitely try to rap something just for the fun of it; most likely something in Spanish so people wouldn't realize when I messed up.
Have you ever had a nickname? What was it and why?
At practice, our team gets divided into groups depending on our events. Well, there is this freshman in our team, Emily Verbrugge; she and I were on the "breaststroke group" along with other teammates almost every day. Long story short, she called us the "breaststroke squad" and called me "squad leader" all year, since I was the oldest. She still salutes me every time she sees me and she even gave me a badge before MACs, which I thought was the cutest thing ever.
If you were a superhero, what would your name be and what powers would you have?
Over training camp we had a cross-fit coach who called me "yogi" because of my flexibility, so I guess something along those lines.
What is the most rewarding part of being a student-athlete at BGSU?
The experience of being a Division I student-athlete as a whole has been amazing, but if I had to pick one thing I would have to say being part of a team; working towards something bigger than myself and the relationships I have made along the way.
What is your pre-meet routine?
I used to be very specific about my routine, but I have learned that not everything is going to go my way on race day all the time. Like at MACs… the day of the 200 breaststroke I almost got left behind at the hotel, they were out of coffee, I broke my goggles at warm-ups, and ripped my suit right before the race; so nowadays all I do is try and prepare. I do prefer having a coffee before heading to the pool, joke around with my teammates while stretching, but then have some down/alone time before the race listening to my pre-race playlist.
