Strong Sunday Leads Falcons to Win at the Snowman Classic

Lancaster, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team carded a round of 299, +11, on Sunday, besting the Ohio University by 17 strokes to come from behind and defeat the Bobcats 616-630 at the Snowman Classic held at the par 72, 6,003 yards Lancaster Country Club golf course in Lancaster, Ohio.
BGSU bounced back from a first round team score of 317, +29, on Saturday, to drop 18 strokes on Sunday for its round of 299, +11. The Falcons trailed Ohio by three shots, 314-317, entering Sunday's final round of play. The Falcons finished with a score of 616, +40, while Ohio concluded play with a score of 630, +54.
"I am proud of our effort today. We had a great comeback on a tough course," stated head coach Stephanie Young. "It was awesome to shoot sub-300 and now we have strong momentum moving into the MAC Championships next weekend."
Carding a Falcon low round of 73, +1, on Sunday was junior Mikayla Baer. Baer, who shot a round of 80, +8, on Saturday, went seven shots lower on the final round of play to finish in second-place overall with a 36-hole score of 153, +9. For the two round event, Baer tallied four birdies overall, three of which came on Sunday, to go along with 22 pars.
Shooting a 74, +2, over the final round of play to finish the tournament in third-place overall was freshman Erin Fahey. Combined with her first round score of 80, +8, Fahey finished with a 36-hole score of 154, +10. After no birdies on Saturday, the Falcon freshman carded two birdies on Sunday as she dropped six shots off her round one score. The freshman also posted 22 pars on the weekend.
Finishing in fourth-place overall was BGSU's Hannah Lewis with a 36-hole score of 156, +12. After a first round score of 79, +7, on Saturday, the Falcon senior shot a second round 77, +5, on Sunday. She finished the weekend with a team-best six birdies and 14 pars.
Making the biggest improvement from day one to day two was Lily Bartell with a second round 75, +3. Bartell, who carded a first round 83, +11, on Saturday, knocked off eight strokes from her round on Sunday to finish with in a tie for fifth-place overall with her 36-hole score of 158, +14. She registered four birdies and 16 pars over her 36-holes of play.
Also finishing in a tie for fifth-place overall was BGSU's Fran Rodriguez. With rounds of 78, +6, and 80, +8, the junior turned in a 36-hole score of 158, +14. She finished with two birdies and 18 pars over her two rounds of play.
Ohio's Hailey Hrynewich earned individual medalist honors with her first-place score of 144, even par.
BGSU, which had all five golfers finish in the top-five on the individual leaderboard on the weekend, will now set its sights on the 2016 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship set for next weekend, April 22-24, at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana.
