Basalyga, Comella Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Greg Basalyga and tennis player Paula Comella.
Male Athlete of the Week
Greg Basalyga, a junior from Pickerington, Ohio, led the Falcons to a 2-2 week, which included a series win over Ohio across April 15-17 at Steller Field. Basalyga finished the week 6-for-14 (.429) with six RBI, two runs and one home run. Basalyga registered at least one RBI over the first three games of the week, and started the weekend with back-to-back multiple-RBI games. The junior went 1-for-3 with an RBI against Dayton in midweek action, before going 2-for-3 with two RBI on Friday in a win over Ohio. Basalyga then helped clinch the series on Saturday with a massive day at the plate. Basalyga went 2-for-3, registered three RBI, scored two runs and drew a walk. In the game, Basalyga put the game out of reach with a two-run home run off the left-field foul pole in the seventh.
Female Athlete of the Week
Paula Comella, a freshman from Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain, added her name to the record books after picking up her 22nd singles victory of the year Sunday afternoon against Ball State's Peyton Gollhofer. With her 22nd win, Comella now ranks 27th in school history. Playing in the No. 1 singles spot, Comella eanred a straight set 6-4, 6-3 victory against Miami's Hannah Shteyn Friday and then earned a 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) victory against Gollhofer Sunday. She also teamed with Drew Fillis for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Ball State Friday.
