Bartell & Fahey Post Top-15 Place Finishes; Falcons Take Seventh at Colonel Classic

Richmond, Ky. – BGSU women's golfers Lily Bartell and Erin Fahey each finished in the top-15 overall on the individual leaderboard to lead the Falcons to a seventh-place team finish at the 2016 EKU Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky at the University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Kentucky.
The Falcons shot a final round of 328, +40, on Saturday. Combined with their first two rounds of 304 and 315, the Falcons ended the three round event in seventh-place overall with a final 54-hole team score of 947, +83. BGSU finished ahead of Northern Kentucky (961), Belmont (963), Cleveland State (979) and Dayton (331) in the 11-team field.
"Today was definitely a disappointing finish. But we will work this week and look forward to competing at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational at home this weekend," stated head coach Stephanie Young.
Bartell just missed out on the top-10, as the senior finished in a tie for 11th-place overall with a 54-hole score of 233, +17. Bartell carded a final round of 83, +11, on Saturday, to go along with her two rounds of 76 and 74 on Friday. She finished the two-day event with four birdies and 30 pars overall.
Turning in the best round of the day for the Falcons on Saturday was Fahey with a final round 77, +5, who jumped up eight spots to finish in a tie for 14th overall. The freshman shot rounds of 76, 81 and 77 over the three rounds of play to end the week with a 54-hole score of 234, +18. The Texas native finished with two birdies and a team-high 35 pars.
Matching Bartell with a round of 83, +11, on Saturday was Fran Rodriguez. The junior turned in rounds of 80, 78 and 83 over her 54-holes of play to finish in 35th-place overall with a final score of 241, +25. Rodriguez carded one birdie, which came over her second round of play, and totaled 30 pars for the tournament.
Finishing one place behind Rodriguez and in a tie for 36th overall was Hannah Lewis with her 54-hole score of 242, +26. Lewis posted rounds of 74, 82 and 86 over the two days of play, which included three birdies and 29 pars.
Junior Mikayla Baer rounded out the Falcons lineup at the Colonel Classic with a 54-hole score of 249, +33, to finish in a tie for 57th overall. Baer carded two birdies and 26 pars over rounds of 78, 86 and 85 for the two-day event.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Madelynn Swank placed in a tie for 36th-place overall with rounds of 80, 79 and 83 for a combined three-round score of 242, +26. She ended her tournament with one birdie and 30 pars over her 54 holes of play.
Just two strokes back of Swank was fellow Falcon Lauren Diehl with a 54-hole score of 244, +28. Also playing as an individual at the event, Diehl shot rounds of 82, 80 and 82 over her two days of play to finish in a tie for 43rd overall. The senior turned in two birdies and 28 pars in her first event of the season.
Also competing as an individual and finishing in a tie for 60th-place overall was sophomore Miranda Dubler with a three-round combined score of 252, +36. She finished the tournament with a total of 24 pars over rounds of 83, 83 and 86.
Eastern Kentucky pulled away for the team win with a final score of 912, +48. The Colonels finished ahead of Ball State (922), Tennessee Tech (933), Ohio (934) and IUPUI (935) in the top-five of the team leaderboard.
The Falcons will host its annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational next weekend, April 9-10, at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
