Noblesville, Indiana – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team ended the 2016 MAC Women's Golf Championships and its 2016 season with a final round of 305, +17, on Sunday at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana to finish the three-day event in eighth-place overall, while senior Lily Bartell and freshman Erin Fahey each etched their names in the BGSU women's golf record book.
Over the MAC Championship weekend, the Falcons carded rounds of 295, 313 and 305 to finish in eighth-place overall with a final score of 913, +49. BGSU finished ahead of Ball State (920) and Central Michigan (958), and just eight strokes out of sixth-place overall.
The final 54-hole team score of 913, +49, is the lowest 54-hole team score ever for the Falcons at the MAC Women's Golf Championships.
"Overall, our three-day total score was 913, which is 43 shots lower than last year and giving us four straight years of the lowest score at the MAC Championships in BGSU history. However, we still need to continue chasing a score that can finish higher against the conference as a whole," stated head coach Stephanie Young. "The MAC is extremely competitive and BGSU has shown throughout the season that we're part of that conversation."

The four-year starter at BGSU finished her intercollegiate career with a final round of 76, +4, on Sunday to finished 36th overall at the MAC Championships with her 54-hole score of 232, +16. Over her final tournament as a Falcon, Bartell carded five birdies, three of which came on Sunday, and 32 pars over the three rounds of play.
Fahey's 54-hole score of 225, +9, this weekend at the 2016 MAC Championships is the lowest individual score for a Falcon women's golfer at the MAC Championships in the program's history, besting the previous record of 226, +10, shot by Jenny Schnipke in 2004. BGSU's Patricia Holt carded a 227, +11, last year at the 2015 MAC Women's Golf Championships.
"We are extremely proud of our freshman Erin Fahey, as she just posted the lowest individual 54-hole MAC Championship score for a Falcon. She has shown great maturity all season and gives off a bright light for our program's future," Young continued.
With her BGSU record low 54-hole tournament score, Fahey finished her freshman campaign with a stroke average of 77.17 over 29 rounds of play on the year, which is the lowest single season stroke average by a Falcon freshman in the program's history. It also ranks as the second best single season stroke average overall in the program's history, sitting just behind Bartell's average of 77.13 back in 2013-14.
"A huge congratulations to Lily Bartell for becoming the all-time career leading scorer in BGSU history," an excited Coach Young stated. "And to Erin for setting the all-time best scoring average for any Falcon freshman in the program's history."
Behind Fahey's rounds of 76, 74 and 75, who placed in a tie for 15th overall, was senior Hannah Lewis with 54-hole score of 229, +13. Lewis wrapped up her four-year Falcon career with rounds of 75, 78 and 76, to place in a tie for 27th overall.
Highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par 3 hole No. 7 on Friday, Lewis recorded one eagle, seven birdies and 28 pars over her 54-holes of play.
Finishing in a tie for 33rd overall was junior Fran Rodriguez with a score of 231, +15. Rodriguez, who carded a career-low round of 72, even par, over the first round of play on Friday, shot a round of 80, +8, on Saturday and final round of 79, +7, on Sunday. She closed out her first MAC Championships appearance with seven birdies and 30 pars over the weekend event.
One stroke behind Rodriguez was Bartell with her score of 232, +16, and then BGSU's Mikayla Baer with her 54-hole tournament score of 233, +17. Baer tallied rounds of 73, 82 and 78 on the three-day conference event to finish in a tie for 37th overall. The junior finished with six birdies and 30 pars in her third MAC Championship Tournament appearance.
"Coach Powers and I are very proud of what this team has accomplished this season," said Coach Young. "We are definitely moving in the right direction. Congratulations and thank you to our seniors Lily and Hannah for outstanding careers at BGSU."
