Five Falcons Named 2015-16 WGCA All-American Scholars

Coral Springs, Florida – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team had a total of five Falcons in Lily Bartell, Hannah Lewis, Mikayla Baer, Fran Rodriguez and Erin Fahey recognized by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) as 2015-16 All-American Scholars, it was announced today.
A total of 828 women's collegiate golfers nationwide were recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and the student-athlete must have played in at least 50 percent of the university's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
The five WGCA All-American Scholars is tied for the second most ever in a single year for the Falcons, as BGSU had five honorees three times before in 1999-2000, 2012-13 and 2013-14. BGSU had a record six WCGA All-American Scholars last year in 2014-15.
Lily Bartell was named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team for the fourth straight year in 2015-16. Bartell, who was also named to the 2014 & 2015 Academic All-MAC Teams, finished her career at BGSU with a career stroke average of 78.23, which ranks as the lowest career scoring average by a women's golfer in BGSU history. In 2015-16, she finished second on the team with a season stroke average of 77.31 on the year, which ranks fourth all-time in BGSU history. Bartell teed-off in all 11 events for the BGSU lineup, including the match play event where she went 3-0-1 overall. The senior recorded six top-25 finishes, including three top-15 finishes. She finished in a tie for fifth at the Snowman Classic, in a tie for 11th at the EKU Colonel Classic and tied for 12th at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite. She helped BGSU post two first-place team wins at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and at the Snowman Classic, and led the Falcons to five top-five team finishes on the year.
Hannah Lewis, like Bartell, picks up her fourth WGCA All-American Scholar recognition in 2015-16. Named to the Academic All-MAC Team for the second straight year, Lewis carded a career-best season stroke average of 77.93 on the year over 29 rounds of play her senior season. The Michigan native played in all 11 events for the BGSU lineup, including going 2-1-1 at the Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge. Lewis, who carded a career-low round 72 on the year, recorded four top-25 finishes on the year. She finished in fourth-place at the Snowman Classic, in a tie for 15th at the 2015 Cardinal Classic and 16th overall at the 2015 Redbird Invitational. Lewis helped BGSU post two first-place team wins at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and at the Snowman Classic, and helped guide the Falcons to five top-five team finishes on the year. She closed out her Falcon career with a 27th-place finish at the 2016 MAC Championships, her best ever finish at the conference championship event, which included a hole-in-one in the first round of the 2016 MAC Championships.
Mikayla Baer, who is majoring in Biology, received WGCA All-American Scholar recognition for the third straight year in 2015-16. Like Bartell, Lewis and Rodriguez, Baer earned Academic All-MAC honors for the second straight season this year. Baer turned in a career-best season stroke average of 78.24 on the year over 29 years of play on the year and carded the lowest 18-hole score for a BGSU golfer on the year with a round of 71, -1 under par, at the 215 Redbird Invitational. She played in all 11 events for the BGSU lineup, including the match play event. The junior registered four top-25 finishes on the year, including a runner-up showing at the Snowman Classic. She also finished in a tie for ninth at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and 14th overall at the 2015 Cardinal Classic. Baer helped BGSU post two first-place team wins at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and at the Snowman Classic, and was a part of the Falcons five total top-five team finishes on the year.
Fran Rodriguez was named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team for the second straight year in 2015-16. A two-time Academic All-MAC Team selection, Rodriguez played in 10 events for the Falcons in 2015-16, including the Women's Mid-American Play Challenge event. The junior carded a career-best season stroke average of 79.00 on the year over 23 rounds of play and shot a career-low round of 72, even par, at the first round of the 2016 MAC Women's Golf Championships. She recorded four top-25 finishes, two of which were top-five individual finishes. Rodriguez turned in a fifth-place showing at the 2015 Redbird Invitational, leading the Falcons to a first-place team win, and also finished in a tie for fifth at the Snowman Classic, another tournament team win by BGSU. The Texas native was the top-Falcon to score in BGSU's opening round of 295, +7, at the 2016 MAC Championships, which was a BGSU program record for the lowest team round at the conference championship event.
Erin Fahey started her BGSU career off in 2015-16 with a record setting freshman year. She posted a stroke average of 77.17 over 29 rounds of play on the season, which led the team on the year. Her average of 77.17 in 2015-16 is the best single season stroke average by a freshman in BGSU women's history and ranks as the second lowest single season stroke average overall in BGSU history. The Texas native played in all 11 tournaments for the Falcons, including going 3-0-1 at the Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge. She carded a low round 72 in the third round of play at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and also shot a round of 73 in the first round of the 2015 MAC Fall Preview. Fahey turned in a 54-hole score of 225, +9, with rounds of 76, 74 and 75 at the 2016 MAC Championships to place in a tie for 15th-place overall. Her 54-hole score of 225, +9, is the lowest 54-hole score by a Falcon at the MAC Championship Tournament in the program's history. The freshman totaled six top-25 place finishes on the year, including a third-place overall at the 2016 Snowman Classic, a 13th overall finish at the 2015 Rocket Classic and placed in a tie for 14th at the EKU Colonel Classic. Fahey was twice named the Vito's Female Athlete of the Week at www.BGSUFalcons.com, won the Team Growth Award on the year and was also awarded the Scoring Leader Award for the lowest scoring average on the team for the season.
