BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green women's soccer program earned its second 2-0 start on the season for the second consecutive year, second in BGSU women's soccer history, after sophomore Erica Hubert found the back of the net late in the game against Valparaiso on Sunday afternoon for a 1-0 final.

Hubert tallied the lone goal and match winner for the second game in a row, while redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Cadel held off the Crusaders offense to mark her ninth career shutout. Cadel faced five attempted shots and two shots on goal throughout the 90 minutes.

"I think this is confirmation at this time that we are in a really good place in terms of how we're playing and how we're competing and ultimately finding ways to win," Bowling Green women's soccer head coach Lindsay Basalyga said. "I'm really proud of this team and where we are in terms of our perseverance; and they rose to the occasion and found a way to win."

In addition to marking three shots, Hubert was in the offensive action for numerous other opportunities, tying up the Valparaiso defense and goalkeeper in several one-on-one scoring chances. Ultimately, by receiving a pass combination from midfield by freshman Sam Howshar and junior Madison Schupbach, Hubert was able to come in on the left side and sneak the ball around the keeper to the right and tuck the goal in the lower right corner of the net.

Shortly thereafter, Cadel stopped a critical scoring opportunity late in the match, to shut down the Crusaders and keep the pair of teams from heading into overtime.

The physical match included five corner kick opportunities for the Falcons, which led to marking a team total of 11 shots, including five on goal. Both Hubert and freshman Chelsee Washington marked a team-leading three attempted shots, while Howshar notched two on the attack.

Up next, the Falcons will host Morehead State on Thursday, Aug. 25 for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup, followed by Oakland on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Cochrane Field.
