Dallas Burke Joins Baseball Staff As Volunteer Assistant
August 25, 2016 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team and head coach Danny Schmitz announced the hiring of Dallas Burke today (Sept. 2) as the program's volunteer assistant baseball coach. Burke will primarily work with the Falcon catchers.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Dallas to the Falcon Family," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We feel like Dallas is going to have a very big impact on our catchers. He has the experience of playing the position both at the college level, and professionally. Dallas has already had success as a coach, as well, and we are confident that he'll fit in nicely with our program."
The hiring finalizes Schmitz's staff for the 2017 season. Along with Schmitz, who will be in his 27th year at the helm of the program this season, Burke joins associate head baseball coach Rick Blanc and assistant Ryan Shay to round out the coaching staff.
"Bowling Green State University is a great place to play baseball, and go to school," commented Burke. "I am extremely excited to work with the players and staff, and cannot wait for the start of the 2017 season. Now it's time to get to work!"
Most recently, Burke spent the last three seasons at Black Hawk Junior College in Moline, Illinois as the program's Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator. He also was the camp coordinator. At Black Hawk, Burke held numerous roles. He helped with the practice schedule, strength and conditioning program and arm care program. Burke coached hitters, catchers and outfielders.
Along with coaching catchers, he played the position at the collegiate level. He played two years at the University of Iowa before completing his career at Missouri Southern State University.
Burke then continued his career at the professional level. He played one season with the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League (Independent Professional Baseball) in 2013, before spending parts of 2014 with the Cologne Cardinals in Germany as a player and coach.
Burke also has built an extremely strong track record in sending players to the next level. Black Hawk has had 12 players over the past two seasons move on to Division I programs. Both starting catchers that Burke has mentored over the last three seasons are now playing NCAA baseball.
Black Hawk has experienced a wealth of success with Burke on staff. They've captured two-consecutive conference championships, and in 2015, had seven players named to the NJCAA All-Region squad.
In addition to his coaching duties at Black Hawk, Burke played an integral role in recruiting. Burke was the first point of contact with potential recruits, and helped run all on-campus visits, including setting up all visits. He also has experience in video analysis, and the breaking down process with scouting reports.
Burke graduated from Missouri Southern State University with a bachelor's degree in arts in history.
