Full Schedule
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons swimming and diving program, which has four consecutive top-three finishes at the MAC Championships, announced its 2016-2017 schedule on Tuesday. Head coach Matt Ense's second season at the Falcons' helm will include six home events, four duals against MAC opponents, and a Washington D.C. trip.
Â
"Our conference and non-conference schedule sets us up really well to have a lot of opportunities to race and be in a position to have a great Conference meet in February," Ense said. "This year we are competing against some schools that we normally do not see on our schedule every year. It will be very exciting for our team to head to Washington D.C. in January to face three strong teams with George Washington, Georgetown and Towson."
Â
The Falcons' meets in Washington will be the team's first events after the calendar flips to 2017. George Washington will host a tri-meet with BGSU and Georgetown on Jan. 13, and the Falcons will follow that with a dual against Towson on Jan. 14.
Â
BGSU's season begins at 3:00 p.m. on Sept. 16, when the Falcons host the annual Orange vs. Brown scrimmage at Cooper Pool. Two weeks later, the team will help celebrate Homecoming weekend by hosting the Tom Stubbs Relays at 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 30 and the Jean Campbell Alumni Meet at 9:00 a.m. on Oct. 1.
Â
Ense will lead his team on the road for the first time this season on Oct. 7, when the Falcons travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Dennis Stark Relays. The team then returns to Cooper Pool on Oct. 21 for the Battle of I-75 against the Toledo Rockets. Last season, Ense and the Falcons defeated Toledo 182-118.
Â
The remainder of the 2016 portion of the schedule includes trips to Xavier on Oct. 28 and Ball State on Nov. 4, as well as a home meet against Michigan State on Nov. 11. The Falcons will be seeking a third consecutive dual victory over the Spartans. BGSU also has two trips to Oxford, Ohio, site of the 2017 MAC Championships. Bowling Green faces Miami in a dual on Oct. 29, then returns to Oxford for the Miami Invitational from Dec. 1-3.
Â
The final home meet of the season will be against Buffalo at 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 20. The Falcons will then participate in the Akron January Invite on Jan. 27 and 28 before concluding the regular season with duals at Oakland on Feb. 3 and Youngstown State on Feb. 4.
Â
The Mid-American Conference Championships take place from Feb. 22-25 in Oxford, Ohio, and the NCAA Championships occur in Indianapolis, Ind. From March 16-18.
