NOTE OF THE DAY
>> Sophomore Maddie Cole knocked down a shot from beyond the arc less than a minute after checking into last Wednesday's (Jan. 18) game against Buffalo. The basket was Cole's first three-point field goal of the season.
>> Then, on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 21), senior Abby Siefker hit her first three-pointer of the season in the first quarter of the Ball State game. All 12 BGSU players on the active roster have now hit at least one long-range shot this season.
A TRADITION OF SUCCESS
>> Bowling Green has won 14 MAC regular-season championships and 11 league tournament titles, the highest totals among all conference teams. Prior to the injury-plagued season of 2014-15, the Falcons had won at least 20 games in a MAC-record 11 consecutive seasons. BG won at least 24 games in nine-straight seasons during that span, losing just 18 total games in MAC regular-season play during those nine years.
>> The Falcons made 10 consecutive national postseason trips from 2005-14, with five NCAA Championships appearances and five trips to the WNIT during that time. The 2006-07 team was the most successful in MAC history, winning a league-record 31 games en route to an NCAA 'Sweet Sixteen' appearance.
>> Overall, BGSU has won 20 or more games 19 times, the highest total among all Mid-American Conference women's basketball-playing institutions.
SCOUTING EMU
Eastern Michigan enters Wednesday's game with an overall record of 5-14, and the Eagles are 0-7 in MAC play. Eastern is 3-5 at home, 1-7 on the road and 1-2 at neutral sites this year to date. Four players are scoring in double figures for the Eagles, led by junior guard Sasha Dailey. Dailey has 17.4 points per game, and is also averaging 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and a team-leading 2.5 steals per contest. Senior guard Phillis Webb and junior guard Micah Robinson have 12.8 and 11.1 ppg, respectively, while senior guard Sheyna Deans has 11.0 ppg. Webb leads the Eagles with 8.4 rpg, while Robinson has an EMU-best 2.9 apg. First-year head coach Fred Castro inherited just five returning letterwinners, including one starter, from last year's team. The 2015-16 edition of the Eagles went 22-12 overall and 10-8 in MAC regular-season action.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Eastern Michigan, 51-15, in the all-time series between the teams, and BGSU has captured 14 of the last 15 meetings. Last season, in the teams' lone matchup, the Falcons downed the Eagles by a 67-63 score at the Stroh (Jan. 27, 2016) in one of BG's top performances of the season. In the last meeting in Ypsilanti, the Eagles picked up a 64-52 win (Jan. 17, 2015) to snap a 13-game BGSU series winning streak. Prior to that victory, EMU's last win over the Falcons was a 57-52 decision in Ypsi in February of 2005. BGSU is 28-4 in home games (including 3-0 inside the Stroh Center), 20-10 in road contests and 3-1 in neutral-site meetings with EMU over the years. Jennifer Roos is 4-1 against the Eagles as a collegiate head coach.
