January 26, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team returns home for a dual match against IUPUI Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
"We are looking forward to playing our first home match this weekend," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "The girls brought in a great level of intensity to practices this week and are ready to battle."
Last time out the Falcons fell to No. 7 Ohio State, 7-0 at the Varsity Tennis Center. Freshman Ayumi Sasaki battled against No. 88 Olivia Sneed. Sasaki played at the singles four spot for the Falcons in her first-ever dual-match competition at BGSU. Sasaki suffered a loss in her first set, 6-4 to Sneed. Sasaki was tested again in the second set, eventually falling 6-3 after multiple ties.
IUPUI is 0-2 overall on the season. The Jaguars have lost to the University of Cincinnati and Wright State. A year ago, IUPUI was 7-16 overall and 2-4 in the Summit League. BGSU has a 3-1 record all-time against the Jaguars. The teams met last season when the Falcons lost a close match to IUPUI, 4-3.
The Falcons and Jaguars both competed at the Greater Cincinnati Invitational as well as the Raider Invitational in the fall. Junior Emily Witt, sophomores Paula Comella and Polina Radeva and freshmen Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Sasaki all picked up wins over IUPUI for the Orange and Brown.
Following this weekend's match, the Falcons will travel to East Lansing, Mich. to take on the Spartans of Michigan State.
