Santoro Named to Preseason All-MAC Team

Falcons tabbed for fifth in the East
Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Carly Santoro has been named to the Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team. The league office announced the 2017-18 preseason all-conference team as well as the coaches' poll on Wednesday morning (Oct. 25).
Santoro, a native of Bellevue, Ohio (Bellevue H.S.), started all 31 games in 2016-17, leading the Falcons in scoring and ranking second in rebounding with 12.0 points and 7.4 boards per game. She also was second in minutes per game (29.7) and three-point field goals made (44), and led the team in free throws made and attempted. She scored in double digits 19 times, the highest total on the team, and paced the club with four games of 20 points or more. Santoro also led the Falcons with five double-doubles on the season. After two years in the Orange and Brown, Santoro has scored 490 career points, an average of 8.3 per game.

Roos, Falcons Reveal Non-Conference Schedule

Head coach Jennifer Roos and her staff -- which is comprised of assistant coaches Jacey Brooks, Nick Moore and Jessie Ivey, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Amanda Cutcher -- welcomes back nine players from the 2016-17 team, and Roos and her staff have added five talented newcomers to the Falcon fold. Season tickets for the 2017-18 campaign are on sale now.
In addition to Santoro, the list of returnees includes seniors Rachel Myers and Haley Puk, juniors Maddie Cole and Sydney Lambert, sophomores Andrea Cecil, Caterrion Thompson and Jane Uecker and redshirt freshman Clare Glowniak. The quintet of true freshmen includes Terri Battle, Madisen Parker, Angela Perry, Sierra Thompson and Kennedy Williams.
Buffalo and Central Michigan were each selected to win their respective divisions. Both the Bulls and the Chippewas received 10 of the 12 votes.
Kent State edged out Ohio for second place in the East Division predictions, while Miami was picked to place fourth, the Falcons fifth and Akron sixth. KSU and Ohio each garnered one first-place vote.
In the West, Toledo was picked to finish second, followed by Ball State, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan. Both the Rockets and Cardinals received one vote to win the division.
CMU received 10 votes to win the overall regular-season crown, and the Chippewas also were the coaches' choice to capture the conference tournament title.
Santoro was joined on the Preseason All-MAC East Division Team by Buffalo's Stephanie Reid, Kent State's Jordan Korinek, Miami's Lauren Dickerson and Ohio's Taylor Agler. The West Division squad included a pair of CMU players in Presley Hudson and Tinara Moore, along with Moriah Monaco of Ball State, Toledo's Mikaela Boyd and Western Michigan's Breanna Mobley.
Falcon fans will get their first chance to see the 2017-18 team in action on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 5, when Seton Hill comes to the Stroh for a 2:00 p.m. exhibition. The regular season begins the following weekend, with BGSU hosting Eastern Kentucky on Friday evening, Nov. 10.
The non-conference schedule also includes home dates vs. Canisius (Nov. 19), Valparaiso (Nov. 28), Xavier (Dec. 6) and Ferris State (Dec. 18), and the MAC schedule begins with a trip to Kalamazoo for a Dec. 30 game at Western Michigan.
The Falcons' conference home opener is set for Jan. 3 vs. Eastern Michigan, and BGSU's MAC home slate also includes dates with Ball State, Toledo and WMU, along with the other five East Division schools.
