Talisa Lemke Named MAC Women's Swimmer/Diver of the Week
November 16, 2017 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Sophomore diver Talisa Lemke has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer/Diver of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Thursday (Nov. 16). This is Lemke's first career player of the week honor and her second weekly honor of the 2017-18 season. Three weeks ago, she was named the MAC's Female Scholar Athlete of the Week.
Lemke once again broke both BGSU diving records during the BGSU's dual meet at Michigan State. On Friday, Nov. 10 at McCaffree Pool, she became the first Falcon diver ever to register a 300 in the one-meter event when she earned a 300.97. That broke the school record of 299.09, which she set on Nov. 4 at Miami. In the three-meter event, she shattered the school record by taking a cumulative 339.22, eclipsing the 323.70 she set on Oct. 28 at Eastern Michigan.Â
Lemke initially broke both school records during a freshman campaign in which she was named MAC Freshman Diver of the Year. This season, she has eclipsed her own one-meter school record in three successive meets and has broken the three-meter mark twice. She won both events in the dual meet at Michigan State and has swept the diving events in four of five meets this season. Her best dives currently rank second in the MAC for the 2017-18 season.
BGSU swimming and diving head coach Matt Ense said, "This is such a great honor for Talisa after having another record breaking weekend in East Lansing against Michigan State. Our diving has come a long way over the last couple of years since bringing it back to the program. Just a few years ago, we were happy to be earning diving points. Now, we know as a team the divers and Talisa are leading the way, and we know we can count on the divers for big team points every meet. Currently Talisa is our leading point scorer on the season, which is very impressive since she only gets to compete in 2 events for dual meets."
The Falcons resume their season in two weeks when the team travels to Akron, Ohio for the Zippy Invitational, which will be held from December 1-3.Â
