Bowling Green Falls Short At Buffalo Tuesday Night

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Bowling Green State University football team battled back to within three points in the fourth quarter, but ultimately dropped a 38-28 decision at the University at Buffalo on Tuesday (Nov. 7) evening. Bowling Green drops to 2-8 (2-4 MAC) on the season with the loss, while Buffalo improves to 4-6 (2-4 MAC) with the win.
The two teams traded early touchdowns, but Buffalo went on to score two quick touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead into the second quarter. The Falcons got within one score multiple teams, and even got within a 31-28 score with 12:04 to play, but a Buffalo touchdown with 8:53 went on to seal the deal.
OFFENSE
- True freshman quarterback Jarret Doege completed 28-of-43 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns. Doege's completions, yards and touchdowns are all career bests.
- Bowling Green rushed for 127 yards, and were led by true freshman Andrew Clair, who rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.
- Scott Miller tied a season high with 10 catches, and he led the Falcon receivers with 108 yards. Miller has caught 10-plus catches in two games, and has also posted 100-plus receiving yards in two games. Miller also added a touchdown in the game.
- Teo Redding hauled in seven catches for 39 yards, and added a touchdown.
- Datrin Guyton caught three passes for 62 yards.
- True freshman Quintin Morris caught two passes, including a touchdown, for a total of 36 yards. Morris caught multiple passes for the first time in his young career.
- The Falcons executed a season-long 98-yard drive in the game.
- Bowling Green went 8-for-16 on third downs.
- Tim Blair, John Kurtz and Andrew Clair made their first-career starts.
- Bowling Green forced two turnovers. Both of them were fumble recoveries. The Falcons lead the nation in fumble recoveries with 15.
- Fred Garth led the Falcons with eight tackles.
- Marcus Milton forced and recovered a fumble on the same play, and finished the game with six tackles.
- Brandon Harris, who had six tackles, forced a fumble at the BG two yard line, setting up a 98-yard drive for the Bowling Green offense, which allowed the Falcons to end the first half down seven points.
- Gus Schwieterman recovered that Brandon Harris forced fumble.
- Montre Gregory had a team-high two pass breakups.
- Nico Lautanen registered a tackle for loss in the ballgame.
- Joe Davidson had six punts for 251 yards, averaging 41.8 yards per punt. Two of his punts were put inside the 20.
- Matt Wilcox had three kick returns for 90 yards, including a game-long 34-yard return.
- Jake Suder connected on all four extra point attempts.
