
Falcons Christen New Season By Breaking Two School Records At BG Opener

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University track and field team earned seven Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying bids and broke two school records Friday night as the Falcons opened the 2017-18 season by hosting the BG Opener. The Falcons won 7-of-13 events in the unscored meet, facing off against both Miami and Eastern Michigan.

SCHOOL RECORDS
- Redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson broke her own school record in the shot put, throwing 16.35m (53-feet-7.75). Her previous record of 16.33m (53-6.75) was set at the MAC Championships a year ago.
- Freshman Ryen Draper shattered the school record in the 300 with a time of 39.88 seconds, bettering Taylor Rambo's time of 40.46 seconds in 2016.
MAC AUTO BIDS
- BGSU earned seven MAC automatic qualifying bids to the MAC Championships, including six in the two throws.
- The Falcons picked up four auto bids in the weight throw. Aliyah Gustafson won the event with a mark of 18.95m (62-2.25), followed by senior Elizabeth Iversen at 18.82m (61-9). Sophomore Kaila Butler threw a PR 18.11m (59-5) for another auto bid and redshirt sophomore Allison Farmer was fourth at 17.92m (58-9.5) with a PR herself.
- Gustafson also earned an auto bid in the shot put with her record-breaking throw, while Iversen also picked up a bid by throwing 15.35m (50-4.5)
- Peyton Lee, a sophomore transfer from Northern Kentucky making her BGSU debut, ran the 60 hurdles in 8.68 seconds to win the event and earn a MAC auto bid. It also places her third in program history in the event.
WINNERS
- BGSU won seven of the 13 events that were contested in the BG Opener. The Falcons did not enter a competitor in the pole vault.
- Aliyah Gustafson and BeJai Fray were multi-event winners. Gustafson won both throws, while Fray won the high jump with a personal best height of 1.64m (5-4.5) and the long jump at 5.47m (17-11.5)
- Dorresha Green won the 60 in 7.71 seconds and Peyton Lee won the 60 hurdles in 8.68 seconds. Ryen Draper added her victory in the 300 in 39.88 seconds.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Sophomore Chasatea Brown finished third in the 60 hurdles with a PR time of 9.09 seconds, just better than her previous fastests time of 9.10 seconds.
- Sophomore Mis'cha Sellers improved her personal best time in the 200 with a time of 25.88. She ran as fast as 26.01 seconds a year ago.
- Sophomore Rachel Stute trimmed almost four seconds off her PR in the 800 with a time of 2:20.39. Her previous career best was 2:24.38.

UP NEXT
- BGSU has more than a month off before heading to Kent State to compete in the Doug Raymond Invitational Jan. 13.
- The Falcons will then return home to host the Tom Wright Classic Jan. 19, the second of three home meets this year. BGSU also hosts the MAC Championships.
