
Back To Work: Falcons Return From Long Lay-Off For Doug Raymond Invitational

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University indoor track and field team returns from a long lay-off to take part in the Doug Raymond Invitational Saturday, hosted by Kent State. The meet will begin at 10 am at Kent State University Field House.

THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE COMING
- BGSU will host three meets in Perry Field House during the indoor season, concluding with the Mid-American Conference Championships Feb. 23-24.
- Bowling Green last hosted the indoor track and field MAC Championships in 2011, placing eighth with 45 team points.
- Five men's teams and 12 women's teams will descend on Bowling Green for the MAC Championships.
- The Falcons already hosted the BG Opener in December and will host the Tom Wright Classic on Jan. 19.
MAC AUTO BIDS
- BGSU has earned seven Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying marks already this year, including six in the two throws events.
- The Falcons picked up four auto bids in the weight throw. Aliyah Gustafson, Elizabeth Iversen, Kaila Butler and Allie Farmer all earned automatic entry to the MAC Championships.
- In the shot put, both Gustafson and Iversen added second automatic bids.
- Peyton Lee, a sophomore transfer from Northern Kentucky, ran the 60 hurdles in 8.68 seconds to earn a MAC auto bid.

THROW FOR DOUGH
- BGSU is set to enter six competitors in the weight throw and four more in the shot put.
- In the weight throw, the Falcons have four of the top five performances in the MAC this year. Aliyah Gustafson is second in the conference, and 19th nationally, in the event. Elizabeth Iversen, who ranks third in school history in the event, is No. 3 in the conference. Kaila Butler and Allie Farmer follow in fourth and fifth.
- In the shot put, Gustafson is the top-ranked thrower in the MAC and the school record holder. Iversen is second in the conference and fifth in school history in the event. Freshman Zaresha Neal is currently 11th in the league.
JUMP AROUND
- BGSU will enter multiple competitors in all three jumping events Saturday.
- In the long jump, five Falcons will look to improve their MAC standings. BeJai Fray is currently eighth in the conference after posting a distance of 17-feet-11.5 in the BG Opener. Peyton Lee is just behind at 17-11, followed by Brianna Richard (17-8.25) and Chasatea Brown (17-6.75).
- In the high jump, Stacey Wolverton kicked off the 2017-18 season by leaping 5-feet-3.25 and is eighth in conference. Lee will look to improve upon her mark of 4-11 at the BG Opener.
- Kyla Paster and Brianna Richard already rank among the top six triple jumpers in the MAC. Paster is third at 37-feet-3 and Richard, just a freshman, is sixth at 36-3. Paster's career-best distance of 38-9.75 places her fifth in school history in the event.
ON THE TRACK
- On the track, BGSU will be focused on the sprints and mid-distance events Saturday.
- BGSU has entered 10 student-athletes in the 60. Dorresha Green is off to the best start amongst the group thus far and ranks eighth in the MAC at 7.71 seconds. Her career-best time of 7.50 seconds is second in school history. Kyla Paster and freshman Savannah Nevels posted the next-best times at the BG Opener.
- The field is almost as crowded in the 200 with seven Falcons entered. Mis'cha Sellers ranks ninth in the MAC this year, but Cortisha Short's career-best time of 24.82 seconds ranks fifth in school history. Also watch out for freshman Ryen Draper, who won the 300 at the BG Opener.
- Freshman Hailey Mayes will run the 400. She was the team's second-fastest finisher in the 300 at the BG Opener.
- Rachel Stute ran the team's fastest time in the 800 at the BG Opener and is currently third in the MAC in the event. Brianna Tidmore will also compete after placing second in the 600 at the BG Opener.
- In the mile, Rachel Durbin is fifth in school history in the event. She will be joined in the event by freshmen Megan Aalberts and Jessi Lindstrom.
- BeJai Fray will compete in the 60 hurdles. She ran the event in 9.37 seconds at the BG Opener but was as fast as 9.24 seconds at least year's MAC Championships.
IT TAKES TEAMWORK
- The 1600 relay will be the only relay race competed on Saturday.
- The Falcons have a young stable of talented student-athletes to compete on two teams.
- Brianna Tidmore and Chasatea Brown have experience on last year's 1600 relay team at the MAC Championships and ran on the team's 3:57.13 team at the BG Opener. The Falcons are currently fifth in the conference in the event.
FALCONS SIGN FIVE
- The BGSU cross country and track & field program announced the signing of five high school student-athletes during the early signing 2017-18 early signing period.
- The Falcons are excited to welcome Jazzlyn Gaiters (Worthington, Ohio / Thomas Worthington HS), Iyanna Ross (Columbus, Ohio / Pickerington Central HS), Katie Seyfang (Washington Court House, Ohio / Miami Trace HS), Olivia Clymer (White Lake Township, Mich. / White Lake Lakeland HS) and Katerina Shuble (La Porte, Ind. / La Porte HS) to the family.
- Gaiters and Ross are sprinters, while Seyfang is a thrower. Clymer is a distance runner who will also compete in cross country and Shuble competes in mid-distance events and will take part in cross country.

ALL-ACADEMIC
- BGSU's track and field team was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the 2016-17 season, posting a 3.43 combined grade point average.
- Current team members Aliyah Gustafson and Rachel Walny, along with graduate Makenzie Wheat, were named USTFCCCA Individual All-Academic award winners.
