
Falcons Successful Against Detroit, 5-2

Perrysburg, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team improved their record to 3-3 after defeating Detroit, 5-2 Friday afternoon at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. This is the second consecutive win for the Falcons who are now 2-0 at home.
"We had an amazing day on the court today," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "The girls brought the energy we needed to pull our second win at home, great start to the weekend."
The Orange and Brown gained a 1-0 advantage going into singles after picking up doubles wins on courts one and two. Sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash easily defeated Anna Davydova and Marie Maitrot, 6-1. The duo improved to 4-2 on the season.
For the second time this season, the pair of sophomore Polina Radeva and freshman Ayumi Sasaki clinched the doubles point for BG with a 6-4 win on court two over Iris Thioux and Nynke Van Der Goot.
In singles action, Comella recorded her fourth win at the No.1 spot notching the first singles victory of the day for the Falcons with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Davydova.
BG extended its lead with a victory on the third court as Radeva defeated Pauline Van Herck 6-1, 6-4 to give the Orange and Brown a 3-1 edge.
Tavpash clinched the match for the Falcons, taking a 6-0, 6-4 decision on court two versus Maitrot.
Although the match was decided, contests on courts, four and five were played out. Junior Emily Witt earned her second win of the season after defeating Providokhina, 6-1, 6-4. Sasaki was the final Falcon off the court. After forcing the third set, Sasaki fell 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 to Thioux.
The Falcons travel to Indianapolis Saturday, Feb. 18 to face the UIndy Greyhounds at 3 p.m. BG will close out the weekend with a home match against Cleveland State Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
