Iversen Answers The Call At Buckeye Tune-Up
February 17, 2017 | Women's Track and Field
Columbus, Ohio – Elizabeth Iversen set new personal bests in both throws events as the Falcons sent limited team members to the Buckeye Tune-Up, hosted by Ohio State University, Friday afternoon.
The Falcons competed five times, with four of those entries coming in the throws. Iversen answered the bell, beginning with the weight throw early in the afternoon. Already ranking second in the Mid-American Conference in the event, Iversen set a new personal best with a throw of 63-feet-7.25 (19.39m) to place second at the meet. The toss moves the Purdue transfer up two spots on BGSU's all-time leaderboard in the weight throw to third place.
Freshman Kaila Butler added her own personal best in the weight throw at 57-11.5. Although she ranks fourth among Falcons in the weight throw in 2017, she is the top freshman in the MAC and No. 11 among all throwers in the conference.
In the shot put, BGSU's school record holder Aliyah Gustafson threw 52-6 to place second overall. Iversen again set a personal best and placed third with a mark of 50-0.75.
"This weekend sets us up nicely for the MAC Championships next weekend," BGSU throws coach Derrick Vicars said. "We are looking forward to competing at the meet."
BGSU sent just one runner to the meet as Rachel Durbin set a new season-best in the 800 with a time of 2:20.88 to place sixth.
Bowling Green will compete next at the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday. The meet will be hosted by Eastern Michigan.
