NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped a 2-0 decision to Lipscomb University on Friday (Feb. 24) evening at Dugan Field. The game was a part of this weekend's Mule Mix Classic in Nashville, Tennessee.
Lipscomb's starting pitcher, Brady Puckett, threw a complete game for the Bisons. He allowed just one Falcon hit, while walking one batter, striking out seven, and facing 29 batters.
Bowling Green falls to 0-4 on the young season with the loss. Lipscomb, of the Atlantic Sun Conference, improves to 4-1 in 2017 with the 2-0 victory.
"You have to tip your hat to the starter tonight," said Bowling Green manager Danny Schmitz. "He pitched a heck of a game, and we just couldn't get anything going. I was happy with how well our pitchers performed. They gave us a chance to win. Our defense was also much improved from last weekend, which was a positive sign, as well. We still have a chance for a very good weekend, but we'll need to play better tomorrow."
Lipscomb scored two runs off Tyler Anderson, who went 5.2 innings. The Bowling Green right-hander allowed five hits, struck out three, and walked four. The Bisons scored one in the third and one more in the sixth.
Chase Antle entered in the sixth, and threw 1.2 innings of one-hit ball. He struck out two batters, while also issuing two free passes. Antle now has five strikeouts on the season, as he struck out the side in his one inning last weekend at Texas A&M.
Tony Landi finished the game for the Falcons, and did not allow a base runner over 0.2 innings. Bowling Green's two base runners were Jake Wilson, and Jeff Scott.
Wilson recorded the first hit of his collegiate career. The freshman singled up the middle in the fourth inning. Scott, who also reached on an error in the first inning, drew a walk with two outs in the ninth. Scott homered last weekend in College Station.
Bowling Green will continue play tomorrow in the Mule Mix Classic with a ballgame versus Middle Tennessee State University at 3 p.m. The Falcons will then conclude the tournament on Sunday. The Falcons are set to play Belmont in the finale, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
