Falcons Register Season-High 11 Hits In Loss To MTSU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team was defeated by Middle Tennessee State University, 20-8, Saturday (Feb. 25) afternoon. The ballgame was a part of the Mule Mix Classic. The Falcons, who scored a season-high eight runs, also posted a season-high 11 hits in the loss.
Bowling Green falls to 0-5 on the season with the loss, while Middle Tennessee improves to 3-3. The Blue Raiders recorded 21 hits, and did not commit a single error. The Falcons committed four errors in the contest.
"We just have not been able to execute in all three phrases yet this season," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "Yesterday, we have one hit. Today, we have 11 and score eight runs, but we commit four errors and allow 20 runs. It's very frustrating, but we have to grind through it. We have a chance to grab a win tomorrow before heading back to Bowling Green, and we need to do whatever it takes to get that win."
Jeff Scott, Cam Daugherty, Nick Glanzman and Blake Jenkins each had multiple hits for the Falcons. Scott went 2-for-3 with a run, while Glanzman went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI. Glanzman had one of three BGSU doubles.
Daugherty went 2-for-2 with a run. Jenkins recorded the first two hits of his collegiate career, as he finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Joe McGuinness had the other double, and finished 1-for-4 with a double, run and walk.
Randy Righter had Bowling Green's other hit, while also adding a run and RBI. Nathan Lohmeier and Addison Rospert each logged scoreless outings out of the Bowling Green bullpen.
Lohmeier went 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit. He registered one strike out, faced six batters, and did not surrender a walk. Rospert pitched a perfect frame, striking out one batter in the process.
Bowling Green took a 2-0 lead in the third on the McGuinness double, and a Righter ground out, but Middle Tennessee responded by scoring the next 13 runs to put the game out of reach.
The Falcons did score five runs in the eighth, sparked by a Glanzman two-run double. Jenkins recorded both of his RBI in the inning, as well, as he poked a two-run single to left-center. Ty Suntken scored on a wild pitch to conclude the scoring in the inning. BGSU's other run came in the sixth, when Righter scored on a wild pitch.
The Falcons will conclude the Mule Mix Classic tomorrow at 2 p.m. with a game against Belmont. Next weekend, the Falcons will hit the road to play a three-game series with Morehead State across March 3-5.
