Fahey Posts Tournament-Leading 16 Pars In First Round of Rio Verde Invite

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Bowling Green women's golf team completed the first day of the Rio Verde Invitational Friday evening and are currently tied for 15th with a first round team score of 316, +28.
Sophomore Erin Fahey led the Bowling Green lineup with an 18-hole score of 74, +2. The Austin, Texas native is currently tied for eighth overall in a field of 103 players and marked her second-best opening round score of the 2016-17 campaign. Fahey carded her mark by scoring even on par 5 holes, and just a 4.13, +1 average on par four holes, in addition to earning a tournament-leading 16 pars.
With a first round score of 78, +6, junior Madelynn Swank finished the first day of competition tied for 37th overall. It is her second-best round of the season, and lowest score to open a tournament thus far. Swank also went even on par 3 scoring, leading the Falcons in the category, in addition to earning one of the two Bowling Green birdies on the day.
Tied with each other with a score of 82, +10 are fellow Falcons senior Fran Rodriguez and freshman Jessica Madry. The duo is currently tied for 75th overall leading into the second day of competition, while Rodriguez carded the second Bowling Green birdie of the tournament.
Rounding out the Falcons lineup was sophomore Sarah Kern. A native of Springboro, Ohio, Kern shot a first round of 91, +19 through the first 18-holes of action.
UMKC currently leads the 19-team field with a team score of 295, +7. The Kangaroos' Chandler Gallagher also leads the field individually with a first round score of 69, -3.
