
BGSU Wins Battle Of I-75, 4-3

Perrysburg, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team rebounded from its loss Friday with a 4-3 victory over the University of Toledo Sunday at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The Falcons improve to 1-1 in conference play and remain undefeated at home this season. This is BGSU's first win over Toledo since March 22, 2013.
"Today we came in with the right mindset and owned the Battle of I-75," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "I couldn't be more proud of the team for believing in their hard work and competiveness. It's a great day to be a Falcon!"
The doubles team of sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash kicked off the match with a 6-2 win on court one versus the Rockets Sidnay Huck and Dee Dee Leenabachong. With the win, Comella and Tavpash improve to 8-6 on the season.
With all eyes on court two, the duo of sophomore Polina Radeva and freshman Ayumi Sasaki handed UT's Claire Aleck and Megan Miller a 7-6(7) loss at the No.2 spot to clinch the doubles point and give the Orange and Brown a 1-0 lead.
BGSU asserted themselves on the singles courts, winning three matches to secure the win. The Falcons picked up its second point of the match with Radeva's 6-1, 6-2 win over Toledo's Colleen O'Brien on court three.
Comella kept the momentum in BG's favor recording the next point for the Falcons, taking down the Rockets Huck at the top spot 6-0, 6-4. This is Comella's eighth win at the No. 1 spot this season.
The Orange and Brown captured the match with Sasaki's 6-2, 7-5 victory against UT's Leenabachong on court four. Sasaki led the entire first set. The second set lead bounced back and forth between Sasaki and Leenabachong before the two tied at 5-5. Sasaki answered immediately and escaped with a 7-5 win.
The Falcons return to the road Friday, March 31 heading to Muncie, Ind. to face the Ball State Cardinals. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
