Carey, Walny Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Zac Carey and track and field runner Rachel Walny.

Male Athlete of the Week
Zac Carey, a junior from London, Ohio, picked up his second win of the season Saturday as he led Bowling Green to its first MAC win of the season at Eastern Michigan. The right-handed pitcher logged 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and two runs before exiting with two outs in the seventh inning. Entering that seventh inning, Carey, who struck out two batters and did not issue a walk, had retired 11 consecutive batters. Carey is now 2-2 on the season with a 3.90 ERA.

Female Athlete of the Week
Rachel Walny, a redshirt sophomore from Clinton Township, Mich., posted the best time in the Mid-American Conference this year in the 5000 at the Raleigh Relays, running the event in 16:37.18. Battling back from an injury-plagued season in 2016, Walny shattered her collegiate personal best by 14 seconds and marked a time 22 seconds faster than anyone else in the conference so far.
