McNeese State Edges Falcons, 4-3

Lake Charles, La. – The Falcons collected a pair of doubles wins and two singles victories Wednesday afternoon, but the Bowling Green State University tennis team fell, 4-3 to McNeese State. The non-conference match was held at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
"Very close battle today, but we fell short at the end," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "Now back to work to get ready for the MAC season in a couple of weeks."
The Orange and Brown started strong by taking the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Picking up their seventh win this season, sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash defeated the Cowgirls junior pair of Sarah Jurakova and Hannah Brett, 6-4. Sophomore Polina Radeva and freshman Ayumi Sasaki earned a 6-1 victory over sophomore Charoline Erlandsson and senior Vivien Borbely. This is the second win for Radeva and Sasaki this week and their fourth overall win this season.
In singles, Comella downed McNeese State sophomore Giovanna Fioretti on court one, 6-2, 6-2. With the win, Comella improved to 7-4 on the season.
Sasaki rallied from a first-set loss to Phonexay Chitdara of McNeese State, taking a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot for the Falcons.
After forcing the third-set, Tavpash fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to Brett at the No. 3 position.
Following today's match, BG will return to Ohio to prepare for the Mid-American Conference opener. The Falcons will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to face Eastern Michigan Friday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
