Akron, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to the Zips Sunday afternoon at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.

"Akron played tough and even though we battled it wasn't enough to take the points were we needed them," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "Paula and Rita played great quality doubles and deserved the win."

In doubles, the top duo of sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash defeated the Zips pair of junior Carli Knezevich and senior Karolina Maksimova on court one, 6-3, picking up their 15th overall victory.

In singles action, Tavpash picked up the lone point for the Falcons at the three position. Tavpash dropped her first set, 6-1 to freshman Rita Pedroso of Akron. Tavpash then won the next two sets, 7-5, 10-3 to clinch the win.

The Orange and Brown return home to close out conference play versus Northern Illinois (Apr. 21) and Western Michigan (Apr. 23). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus. In the event of inclement weather, the matches will be held indoors at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
