Rachel Walny Named MAC Track Athlete Of The Week
April 18, 2017 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio - For the second time this year, Bowling Green State University redshirt sophomore Rachel Walny has been named the Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week. Walny shattered the school record in the 10,000 at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays Thursday evening.
Walny ran the 10,000 in 34:02.57, a time that was 15 seconds faster than the mark set by Sara Collas in 1986. That school record had stood for 31 years prior to Walny's achievement. She currently ranks second in the MAC in the event and is a virtual lock to become the first BGSU student-athlete to compete in the 10,000 in NCAA postseason competition since 1993.
Walny was also named MAC Track Athlete of the Week March 28 after posting a MAC automatic qualifying bid in the 5000.
Bowling Green will be back in action at the Jesse Owens Classic Friday and Saturday as the Falcons gear up for the stretch run.
