Falcons Return Home To Face The RedHawks Sunday

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team will take on the Miami RedHawks Sunday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus. In the event of inclement weather, the match would be held indoors at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
The Orange and Brown went on the road last weekend, falling to Ball State, 7-0.
"Miami has been a strong team for the past few years, but we are excited to battle again, this time outside and with a good crowd at our home courts on campus," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said.
Miami enters the weekend with an overall record of 7-9 and 2-1 in the MAC. The RedHawks defeated Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and fell to Akron. Miami will face Toledo Friday before traveling to BG for Sunday's match. Last season, head coach Yana Carollo's finished with records of 12-10 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The returners for the RedHawks are senior Andreea Badileanu, juniors Nelli Ponomareva, Hannah Shteyn and Anastasiia Vasiukhina and sophomores Anzehlika Shapovalova and Emily Struble. Miami was predicted to finish third in the league, according to the preseason poll. The RedHawks lead, 41-5, in the all-time series between the teams.
In singles, Badileanu and Struble lead Miami with 17 victories a piece, following closely behind are Shapovalova and Ponomareva each with 15 wins. The duo of Badileanu and Struble have tallied nine wins, seven at the No. 3 spot and two at the No. 2 position.
The Falcons saw success against Miami at the Purdue Invite held in the fall. Sophomore Polina Radeva defeated Struble, 7-6(4), 7-5 and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash picked up a win, blanking Shapovalova, 6-0, 6-0. The tandem of sophomore Paula Comella and Tavpash took down Ponomareva and Vasukhina, 7-5.
Following this weekend's matches, BGSU will return to the road to take on Buffalo (Apr. 14) and Akron (Apr. 16). Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m.
Sunday will also be the last day to buy Falcon Club 50/50 raffle tickets for the $5K pot. The winner will be announced during the BGSU baseball game versus Toledo Sunday afternoon. For more information CLICK HERE.
