July 31, 2017 | Women's Track and Field
New Orleans, La. – The Bowling Green State University indoor and outdoor track and field teams earned a 3.43 cumulative grade point average in 2017, becoming one of 218 NCAA Division I women's track and field teams to be honored as a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. As well, three Falcons were named All-Academic individuals for posting a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and advancing to the NCAA preliminary round.
BGSU's team GPA of 3.43 ranked second among all Mid-American Conference schools. Redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson, redshirt junior Rachel Walny and graduate Makenzie Wheat were all named USTFCCCA individual All-Academic.
"Academic success is always a major team and individual goal of our program," BGSU Track & Field and Cross Country Coach Lou Snelling said. "Our cross country and track & field athletes work extremely hard in the classroom to get the most out of their educational opportunities. They absolutely deserve to be recognized for that focus. Of course it takes takes a village, so I would like to thank Chet Hesson and Meghan Horn in Student-Athlete Services, along with our dedicated faculty."
The BGSU indoor track and field team placed fourth out of 12 teams at the Mid-American Conference Championships in 2017 and the outdoor team finished seventh. The Falcons sent four competitors to the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round and Walny advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 10,000.
