Falcons Cross Country Teams Picked To Finish Third In MAC

CLEVELAND, Ohio – With the start of the men and women's cross country seasons just around the corner, the Mid-American Conference has released its preseason poll, pegging both Falcon teams to finish third in their respective standings.
Eastern Michigan was selected to finish first overall in both the men's and women's polls, receiving nine of the possible 10 first place votes (two coaches abstained) for women's and seven of eight votes (one coach abstained) in the men's.
In the women's poll the Eagles are followed by Northern Illinois who is expected to finish just ahead of the Bowling Green State University squad. Following the Falcons is Toledo, who received one first place vote, Central Michigan, Miami, Buffalo and Western Michigan. Rounding out the rest of the standings is Ohio, Ball State, Akron and Kent State.
On the men's side, following the Eagles is Miami who received one first place finish vote, expected to finish just above the Falcons this season. Behind BGSU is Buffalo, Ohio, Akron and Central Michigan. Toledo and Kent State round out the standings.

Last season the BGSU women's cross country team finished third at the MAC Championships while the men placed fifth. The women have now finished in the top three in each of the past two seasons. The last time the men finished in the top three was back in 1995, when they took home the title of MAC Champions.
The Falcons open their season this Friday, Sept. 1, as they host Toledo in the Mel Brodt Invitational. The men's 5,000m race is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the same distance for the women at 7:00 p.m.
