Falcons Fall At Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University football team dropped a 49-7 decision on Saturday (Sept. 16) evening to Northwestern University at Ryan Field. The Falcons and Wildcats traded touchdowns in the first quarter, but Northwestern held Bowling Green scoreless for the remainder of the ballgame.
With the loss, Bowling Green falls to 0-3 on the season, while Northwestern improves to 2-1. The Orange and Brown will conclude its non-conference schedule by traveling to Middle Tennessee State University next Saturday (Sept. 23).
OFFENSE
-- James Morgan completed 15-of-26 passes for 166 yards.
-- Jarret Doege entered the game in relief and completed 12-of-18 passes for 90 yards.
-- Josh Cleveland led the Falcon rushing attack with 54 yards on 12 carries.
-- Jared Wyatt hauled in the first four catches of his career, and finished the game with 45 yards.
-- Teo Redding (34 yards) and Scott Miller (30 yards) also registered four catches.
-- Along with Wyatt, Pete Norris also recorded the first catch of his collegiate career.
-- In total, 12 different players caught at least one pass.
DEFENSE
-- Brandon Harris and Nate Locke led the Bowling Green defense with nine tackles apiece.
-- Harris also forced a fumble, had a fumble recovery, and broke up a pass.
-- David Konowalski had a team-high 2.0 tackles for loss.
-- Josh Croslen and Shannon Smith each totaled a sack.
-- Armani Posey, along with having five tackles, forced a fumble.
-- Torian Hampton recovered a fumble.
SPECIAL TEAMS
-- Joseph Davidson punted nine times for a total of 407 yards (45.2 average).
-- Davidson record a long of 61 yards, and landed four of his punts inside the 20.
-- Bowling Green held Northwestern to two yards on three punt returns.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
-- Kyle Junior and Jonah Harper each made their first-career starts.
-- Lorenzo Taborn returned the offensive line, starting the ballgame and seeing significant action after suffering an injury early in the year.
-- Clint Stephens also saw action for the first time since the 2015 GoDaddy Bowl, after tearing his ACL and missing the entire 2016 season.
-- Bowling Green won the turnover battle for the second time this season. BGSU forced two fumbles.
-- Bowling Green committed just three penalties for 15 yards.
