NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team opened the MAC Fall Preview with a pair of strong rounds. Bowling Green posted team scores of 296 (Round 1) and 305 (Round 2) to sit in sixth place at the 12-team event. Central Michigan is hosting the tournament, which is being played at the Purgatory Golf Club – the same course that will host the 2019 MAC Championships.
BGSU's round-one 296 is the program's second best round this season – second only to the 295 that BGSU posted in the final round of the Shirley Spork Invitational earlier this week. The 296 is tied for the sixth-best score in school history over 18 holes.
Toledo (574) has a one-shot lead over Xavier (575) heading into tomorrow's final 18 holes of golf. Bowling Green was led on the day by Julia Durkin, who registered rounds of 76 and 73, respectively, to sit in a tie for 19th place on the individual leaderboard. Durkin carded three birdies in each round.
Three Falcons – Jessica Madry, Katie Whitfield and Erin Fahey – recorded identical two-round totals of 151. The trio of Falcons is currently tied for 26th. Sammi Blackburn opened the tournament with a solid 75 (T-53), while Nichole Cox (T-53), who also opened the event with a 75, registered a birdie apiece in both rounds while competing as an individual.
COACH YOUNG QUOTE
"We came out strong at the start today and were able to post a great opening round. Unfortunately, we lost a little of that momentum, but still posted a number tonight that keeps us in position to move up tomorrow. I am confident in our team, and know they can finish strong in the final round."
