UP NEXT IN FALCON SOCCER
• The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, alone at the top of the Mid-American Conference standings, faces two tough tests this week in an effort to stay there. Head coach Matt Fannon and the Falcons venture to Mount Pleasant, Mich., for a Thursday (Oct. 4) match against Central Michigan University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the CMU Soccer Complex.
• Then, the Brown and Orange will return to Northwest Ohio to begin a three-match homestand on Sunday (Oct. 7). BGSU will face Eastern Michigan, with first touch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium. As always, admission to all Falcon home regular-season soccer action is free.
GREAT START!
• The Falcons are off to a 4-0-0 start in the MAC for the first time in program history. The only other Falcon team to win as many as three-straight games to kick off the conference campaign was the 2000 club.
• Additionally, BGSU is unscored upon through four MAC matches, also for the first time in program history.
• Only five BGSU teams – the 1999, 2000, '06, '10 and this year's club – have begun the MAC schedule with as many as two consecutive wins.
TWO IS A MAGIC NUMBER
• The Falcons, as mentioned, are off to a 4-0-0 start in MAC play, with a total of 10 goals in those four wins. BGSU has now scored two or more goals in 19 of the 32 matches since Matt Fannon became head coach prior to the 2017 season.
• In the Fannon Era, BGSU is a perfect 19-0-0 when scoring at least two goals, and the Falcons are 0-10-3 when being held to fewer than two goals.
ZERO IS A MAGIC NUMBER AS WELL
• The Falcons' 2-0 shutout against Western Michigan on Sunday was BG's fifth consecutive clean sheet, tying the school record. BGSU also had five-straight shutouts in 2008.
• Junior Kathleen Duwve, after combining with redshirt junior Victoria Cope on a shutout vs. Northern Illinois on Friday, played all 90 minutes of the WMU match. Duwve's personal shutout streak stands at a career-long 361:54. That ranks as the sixth-longest such streak by an individual in BGSU history.
• As a team, the Falcons have not allowed a goal in 451:54, the second-longest such streak in program annals. The school record is 606:31 without allowing a goal, set in 2008.
A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE FALCONS
• The Falcons are 6-3-2 this season, and BGSU enters the CMU match with a 4-0-0 MAC record. As mentioned, the Falcons are off to the best MAC start in program history after wins over Northern Illinois and Western Michigan last weekend.
• The Falcons are 4-1-1 at home, 2-2 on the road and 0-0-1 in neutral-site matches this season to date. BGSU has outscored opponents, 21-6, including 10-0 in the four conference contests.
• BGSU has won five-straight games, and the Falcons are unbeaten in the last six matches (5-0-1).
• Senior Erica Hubert and junior Chelsee Washington are tied for the team scoring lead. Both players have 17 points on six goals and five assists. Washington has a six-match point-scoring streak, with 16 of her points coming in that time. During that stretch, which has coincided with BGSU's unbeaten streak, Washington has six goals, including four game winners.
• Hubert has seven points over the last three matches, and the senior striker has a total of 14 points in the last six contests.
• Junior Maureen Kennedy has nine points to rank third on the team, and is tied for the BG lead with five assists. Kennedy has helped the BG defense to four shutouts in as many MAC matches, and has been involved in the scoring of four of BG's 10 goals at the other end during league play.
• Redshirt sophomore Nikki Cox has three goals and six points on the year.
• Junior Kathleen Duwve has started all 11 matches in goal this season, and has 40 saves and a goals-against average of just 0.56. She has posted four complete-match shutouts and combined on two other clean sheets.
• A total of 27 players have seen action in at least one match this year, and 16 of those players have made at least one start.
• Head coach Matt Fannon and his staff – assistant coaches Cian McDonald, Dan Ball and Erin Kielmeyer – welcomed back 18 letterwinners, including seven starters, from last year's team. BGSU finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 13-7-1, and the Falcons placed second in the MAC's East Division.
• The Falcons were the most improved team in the Mid-American Conference a year ago, with a four-game improvement over the 2016 season. BGSU's turnaround tied the team for 28th in the country in that department.
• BG' total of 13 victories a year ago was the second-highest in school history, while the Falcons' six conference wins represented the team's most since 2008.
• Fannon was voted the 2017 MAC Coach of the Year, and the Brown and Orange had four All-MAC Team selections. Two of those four returned, as Hubert was one of three Falcons to earn all-league first-team honors a season ago, while Alexis Fricke was named to the all-conference second team.
AWARDS ARE ROLLING IN
• The Falcons' fast start in MAC play has not gone unrecognized, as BGSU players have captured a veritable plethora of awards and honors over the last two weeks.
• Last Tuesday (Sept. 25), junior Chelsee Washington won no fewer than three awards. Washington was named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week, an award given to just one player in each NCAA division in the nation. She also was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, and earned MAC Offensive P-O-W honors for good measure.
• That same day, junior goalkeeper Kathleen Duwve was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week.
• This Tuesday (Oct. 2), Erica Hubert and Maureen Kennedy captured the MAC Offensive and Defensive P-O-W awards, respectively, while Kennedy also was named to the TDS Team of the Week. It marked the third-straight week that the TDS team had Falcon representation, as Hubert earned honorable mention on Sept. 18.
• The complete list of BGSU's awards this season to date can be found on page 7 of the PDF version of these notes.
THE OPPONENTS
• Central Michigan is 5-7-0 overall, and the Chippewas are tied for second in the MAC standings with a 3-1 league ledger. CMU has defeated Ohio, Kent State and Akron and lost to  Buffalo in conference action. THe Chippewas are 4-1 at home this season. Lexi Pelafas, one of three double-digit scorers for CMU, has team-high totals of six goals and 15 points. Brianna Wallbridge and Morgan Britain have split time in goal. Wallbridge has a GAA of just 1.11, while Britain leads the team with 27 saves. Last year, coach Peter McGahey's club went 8-8-3 overall and 3-6-2 in the MAC. Eleven letterwinners returned from that team.
• Eastern Michigan is 7-6-0 overall, and the Eagles are 2-2 in the MAC heading into a Thursday home match vs. Toledo. EU has wins over KSU and UA, with one-goal losses to Ohio and UB. Kristin Nason and Sabrina McNeill have 12 and 11 points, respectively, as Nason has scored five goals and McNeill four. In goal, Kaylin Williams has played in every game and has 62 saves and a 1.31 GAA. Last year, coach Scott Hall's team went 7-12-1 overall and 4-7-0 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• BGSU trails Central Michigan, 14-6-2, in the all-time series between the teams, but the Falcons captured last year's meeting, 3-1, to break an 11-match losing streak vs. the Chippewas. CMU picked up a 2-1 overtime win two years ago in the last meeting in Mount Pleasant. The Falcons' last road win in the series came in 2005. BGSU is 2-7-1 in home matches, 3-7-0 on the road and 1-0-1 in neutral-site contests vs. the Chippewas.
• The Falcons trail Eastern Michigan, 15-9-1, in that series, and the Eagles have won two-straight meetings, taking a pair of 2-1 decisions. Last year's matchup was settled in double-OT in Ypsilanti, while Eastern won a one-goal match in regulation at Cochrane Stadium in 2016. BG's last win was also a 2-1 verdict, on the road in 2015, while the Falcons' last home win over EMU came by that same score in overtime in 2011. In fact, six of the last seven matches have ended with a 2-1 final score. BG is 3-7-0 at home and 6-8-1 on the road vs. Eastern through the years.
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the EMU game, the Falcons will continue a three-match homestand the following weekend. BGSU will meet preseason MAC favorite Kent State on Friday, Oct. 12, before facing Ohio University on Sunday, Oct. 14.
• Admission to all home regular-season matches is free.
