Mwembia, Hubert Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
October 08, 2018 | General, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are soccer players Anthony Mwembia and Erica Hubert.
Male Athlete of the Week
Anthony Mwembia, a junior from Toulouse, France, recorded a shutout in the Falcons' lone match of the week, a scoreless draw with Akron in the MAC opener. Mwembia made a career-high 10 saves and broke up a number of other crosses and scoring chances in shutting out the Zips. Mwembia made seven of his 10 saves in regulation, and had three stops during the second 10-minute overtime period. Making Mwembia's performance more impressive was the fact that the match was the fact that the match was delayed for an hour late in the first half due to a thunderstorm, so the final 72-plus minutes of his shutout came in conditions that were less than ideal.
Female Athlete of the Week
Erica Hubert, a senior from Welland, Ontario, had five points as the Falcons won two more games to improve to 6-0-0 in the Mid-American Conference for the first time in program history. On Thursday, Hubert scored two goals in the Falcons' 3-1 win at Central Michigan, and she hit the post with an additional shot. She scored the first goal of the match midway through the first half, then gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead early in the second period. On Sunday, she had the primary assist on the lone goal of the game as BG downed Eastern Michigan, 1-0.
