October 08, 2018 | Ice Hockey
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Stephen Baylis of the Bowling Green State University hockey team has been voted WCHA Forward of the Week.
This comes after his performance in Bowling Green's 8-2 season opening road win on Saturday (Oct. 6) against Mercyhurst.
The Falcons scored eight times on 35 shots with three power play goals.
Baylis completed a natural hat trick with three goals and an assist capping off a four point night for the senior captain.
As of today, Baylis is also the nation's top scorer, collecting the first men's D-I hat trick of the season.
"He plays like that from a physical power forward perspective," head coach Chris Bergeron said on Baylis following the game. "That gives us a chance to be the team we're capable of being. For us to be the best version of ourselves, that takes the individuals on our team. I thought he was good tonight."
With his first career hat trick, Stephen Baylis now has 24 career goals for the Falcons, and a total of 71 points.
The Falcons next game will be on the road Tuesday Oct. 9 at No. 18 Western Michigan.
No. 20 Bowling Green opens the home portion of their regular season schedule on Sunday night (Oct. 14) at 5:07 p.m. when they host Robert Morris University at Slater Family Ice Arena.
It is the second game in a home-and-home series between BGSU and RMU, as the Falcons will travel to Pittsburgh on Friday Oct. 12.
