All three players were named to the team for the first time in their respective collegiate careers.
BGSU has two first-team selections and three overall team members for the first time in program history. Prior to the 2018 season, BGSU had had five first-team picks and 15 overall selections in the program's first 21 years.
As first-team all-district selections, Baeron and Kennedy will see their names placed on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team ballot.
Baeron, a native of Selsingen, Lower Saxony, Germany, has played in all 21 of BG's matches, making a pair of starts. She was named the Mid-American Conference Tournament MVP as the Falcons won the league tourney title over the weekend. On Sunday afternoon (Nov. 4), in the tourney's championship match, Baeron – who arrived at BGSU mere months after the Falcons had completed a winless 2013 campaign – converted her penalty kick in the sixth round of the PK phase against Ball State, giving BG the title. She had two shot attempts during the match, including one that hit the post in the second overtime period, before converting the walk-off PK moments later.
A fifth-year senior, Baeron is an exercise science major with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average at BGSU.
Kennedy, a native of Cypress, Calif., was the MAC's Defensive Player of the Year and an All-MAC First-Team selection. She has started all 21 matches this fall, and ranks third on the team with 20 points. She has five goals and 10 assists, tying for the team lead in the latter category. Her total of 10 assists also ties the school single-season record, a record she already shared. Kennedy is the only player in school history with two seasons of double-digit assists. In league games, she was second in the conference in assists, and also was ranked among the MAC's top 10 in points. Kennedy was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week three times in the month of October alone.
Kennedy, a junior, is a psychology major at BGSU, with a 3.98 cumulative GPA.
Washington, like Kennedy an All-MAC First-Team selection, has started all 21 matches and is second on the team with nine goals and 27 points. Washington, a native of Carrollton, Texas, is third on the Falcons with nine assists. In MAC games only, she was second in the league in points (19) and tied for second in goals (seven). Washington has scored a team-leading four game-winning goals, scoring those four GWG in a five-match span. She had the game-opening goal four times in MAC play, and all four of those goals came within the first eight minutes of the contest. Washington was named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week on Sept. 25.
Washington, a junior, is a criminal justice major with a 3.53 cumulative GPA at the University.
The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The NCAA Division I teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, with District 5 comprising all student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of CoSIDA members within the district.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.Â
The Falcons of head coach Matt Fannon are 14-4-3 overall, and BGSU posted a 10-1-0 record in Mid-American Conference play. BG won the MAC's regular-season and tournament titles, and the Brown and Orange will face Penn State University on Friday evening (Nov. 9), in the first round of the NCAA Championships.
