Lambert Reaches Milestones as Falcons Down Senators, 63-28
December 30, 2018 | Women's Basketball
Senior reaches the 1,000-point mark for her career
Senior Sydney Lambert reached several milestones as the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team ended non-conference play on a successful note Sunday evening (Dec. 30). The Falcons topped Davis & Elkins College, 63-28, at the Stroh Center.
Lambert scored a game-high 18 points, in the process surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her BGSU career. She took a pass from freshman Molly Dever and hit a foul-line jumper with 8:06 remaining in the fourth quarter for her final points of the day. That shot gave Lambert a career total of 1,001 points as a Falcon.
The Cincinnati native made the 100th start of her Falcon career on Sunday. Lambert, who has started every game since coming to BG, is just the 13th player to make 100 or more starts.
Freshman Morgan McMillen added 12 points and junior Andrea Cecil 10 for the Falcons, who are now 7-4 on the year.
BGSU is now a perfect 5-0 at the Stroh Center this season.
NOTE OF THE DAY
• BGSU held Davis & Elkins to just 28 points on Sunday. That is the third-lowest opponent point total in school history, and the fewest points the Falcons have allowed in over 40 years.
• BGSU has kept the opponent under 30 points four times in program history. The first three such instances came in the 1973-74 and '74-75 seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons struggled to make shots in the early going, but BG took an early nine-point lead as the defense pitched a shutout for over eight minutes to start the game.
• BG led, 15-6, after the first quarter, and the Falcons then scored the first 10 points of the second period. BGSU outscored the Senators by a 27-4 count in that second period, taking a 42-10 lead into the half.
• The Falcons continued to extend the lead in the third quarter, with Lambert's three-point play giving the Brown and Orange a 44-point advantage, the largest of the game, after 30 minutes.
• Coach Robyn Fralick's team led, 59-15, entering the fourth period, and after the Senators opened the final-quarter scoring with a Kali Wilburn putback, senior Sydney Lambert hit a foul-line jumper with 8:06 to go, for the 1,000th and 1,001st points of her BGSU career. Fralick immediately used a timeout, and Lambert's teammates rushed the floor to congratulate her.
• BG scored just two points over the final eight minutes, as the Senators closed the gap to the final 35-point margin.
Â

• The teams combined to go just 3-for-8 from the free-throw line on the day.
INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS

• McMillen knocked down four three-pointers, while Lambert hit three and Cecil two.

• In addition to her six points, Parker had seven rebounds to tie her career best. McMillen had six boards, while Dever set a new career standard with five rebounds, including four at the offensive end.
• Dever, Lambert and Cecil all had three assists.

ANOTHER HOME GAME, ANOTHER THREE-POINT RECORD
• In BGSU's first four home games of 2018-19, no fewer than five three-point shooting-related records were tied or broken.
• The Falcons' last home game, the win over Detroit Mercy on Dec. 17, saw BG break the school single-game record for three-pointers attempted. The Brown and Orange fired 40 triple tries as a team vs. the Titans.
• That school record lasted for less than two weeks. On Sunday, BGSU shot 43 three-pointers, a new school mark and just two shy of the MAC record.
FIRST-QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
• Defense led to offense for the Falcons in the early going. Hempfling came up with a steal and found Lambert ahead of the pack for a layup that opened the scoring. Then, McMilllen went to the ground to up with a steal roughly 90 feet away from the basket, and the freshman flipped the ball to Lambert. The senior whipped a pass to a wide-open Glowniak for an easy layup.
• Cecil drove and kicked the ball out to McMillen for a corner three and a 7-0 lead, and Glowniak's nifty offensive board and shot off glass gave the hosts a nine-point lead.
• Davis & Elkins finally got on the scoreboard on a jumper by Colleena Burdock with 1:57 left in the quarter. The Senators had missed eight shots and committed seven turnovers prior to Burdock's bucket.
• But, Cecil came right back with a three-pointer for a 12-2 lead, and the junior's jumper in the final minute rattled home to give the Falcons a 15-6 advantage after one quarter.
SECOND-QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
• Parker found Cecil for another three-pointer to open the second-quarter scoring, and Hempfling followed her own miss and put the ball back up and in.  A Hempfling steal led to a Lambert layup, and Lambert hit a three-pointer from the top of the arc to give the Falcons a 25-6 lead.
• After a Nicole Armstrong layup for the visitors, Parker hit a corner three, and Lambert then knocked down a shot from that same corner. When McMillen connected from beyong the arc, the Falcons had a 34-8 lead with 3:22 left before the half.
• Hempfling's 'extra pass' from the short corner resulted in a layup by senior Maddie Cole, and after the Senators snapped BG's 11-0 run, Cole found McMillen for a catch-and-shoot three-ball.
• Dever's triple in the last minute of the half gave the Falcons a 42-10 lead at the break.
• The Falcons were 10-of-19 from the field in the second quarter, going 7-for-13 from three-point range in that period. Five different BG players knocked down a long-range shot in the quarter as the hosts outscored D&E, 27-4.
THIRD-QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
• With BG running after a Senators miss, Hempfling found Lambert for yet another three-pointer that opened the third-period scoring.
• Armstrong hit the visitors' first three-pointer of the day, but Cecil's jumper was followed by a Dever triple, giving the Brown and Orange a 50-13 lead.
• Sydney Nestor stopped that 5-0 BG run with a layup, but the Falcons would hold the Senators scoreless for the final 5:50 of the period.
• McMillen hit a three-pointer, then found Parker for a long-distance shot. Then, Dever stole the ball near midcourt and fed it ahead to Lambert for an and-one layup. The ensuing free throw was good, giving BG a 59-15 lead after three quarters.
• Battle entered the game for the first time with 1:46 left in the period, and proceeded to grab three rebounds in a 13-second span.
FOURTH-QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
• BGSU hit only two field goals in the final period, but the first set a milestone. Dever found Lambert cutting toward her, and the senior turned, rose up and knocked down a foul-line jumper with 8:06 on the clock, giving her 1,001 career points. Coach Fralick quickly used a timeout, and Lambert's teammates raced onto the court to congratulate her on the milestone.
• BG's only other bucket in the quarter also came on a Dever assist, as the freshman threw the ball inside to junior Jane Uecker for a banker.
LAMBERT WATCH
• Senior Sydney Lambert is the 28th player in BGSU history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. With her final bucket of Sunday's game, she moved past Lindsay Austin (1,000 points from 2000-04) into 27th place on the BG list. Lambert's next targets are Cary McGehee (1980-84) and Miriam Justinger (2012-16), who each scored 1,027 points as a Falcon.
• Lambert has started all 100 games since she came to BGSU, tying her with Alexis Rogers (2011-14) for 12th place on that school list. If Lambert is in the starting lineup for BG's next game, she would tie Francine Miller (1998-2003) and Tracy Pontius (2007-11) for 10th place in career games started.
• Lambert is fourth in BGSU history in three-point field goals made, with 209. She trails third-place Liz Honegger (216 from 2003-07) by nine triples.
UP NEXT
• The Falcons will begin the Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule on Saturday (Jan. 5), when Western Michigan comes to the Stroh Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
• Then, the Brown and Orange will hit the road for the next two games, taking on Ball State on Jan. 9 and Akron on Jan. 12. The BSU game will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Muncie, with the UA contest set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
