DURHAM, N.H. -- Jovannah East completed all four events for the first time in her career and helped the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team break the 195 barrier for the third time this season on Sunday (Feb. 18) against the University of New Hampshire. Although the Wildcats won the meet 195.650-195.025, the Falcons' performance showed a marked improvement from the previous two meets. On the uneven bars, the lineup continued to improve and posted a season-best score for the fourth consecutive meet. BGSU also set a season-best team score on the uneven bars. The team now owns a 194.739 average through seven meets and improved their Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to 194.735. The Falcons are now 3-6 overall, and New Hampshire improves to 5-4.

Sophomore standout Jovannah East was a late addition to the uneven bars lineup, and as usual, her performance met the pressure of the moment. Her first collegiate bars routine earned a 9.825 from the judges, which was BGSU's best score on that apparatus and resulted in a third-place finish. The addition to her repertoire was the final key to all-around status, and she excelled in all four events. She also posted the team's best scores on vault (9.800), beam (9.875), and floor (9.900). East finished in the top three of each event and tied for the victory on floor. As a result, her all-around score was 39.400, the fourth-best in BGSU history.
Bowling Green gymnasts earned 9.8 or above seven times on Sunday. Two were achieved by Lexi Augustine, who tied for third on the floor with a 9.800 and placed fourth on the bars with another 9.800. Laura Mitchell matched her season-high on the beam and tied for fourth with a 9.850. Another five routines were awarded at least a 9.750.
HEAD COACH KERRIE TURNER SAYS...
"We saw great improvement from the team today. We had to make a lineup change on bars, and Jovannah East stepped in and got the job done along with her teammates. I was also pleased to see our beam lineup get back on track after a tough rotation last week. This score will help our RQS and will help us move towards that 196 mark."
