RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf program wrapped up first-round play at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Friday (Feb. 23). The tournament, which is being hosted by Western Michigan University, is being played at the Quail Run course at the Rio Verde Country Club.

Bowling Green sits tied for 14th after the first day of competition. The Falcons shot a 321 team score. BGSU is tied with Central Michigan, while sitting ahead of UMKC (323) and Illinois State (331). Arkansas-Little Rock carded a 305 to sit in first place.

"I am proud of our fight today in the cold and windy conditions," said head coach Stephanie Young. "We finished most of our rounds strong at the end, but weren't able to meet our team score goal. There are two rounds left, and we are looking forward to the challenge."

FALCON FACTS
• Junior Erin Fahey is in contention for the individual title. Fahey sits tied for second, just two shots off the lead, which is held Akron's Jacinta Pikunas. Fahey carded a round-one 73.
• Freshman Nichole Cox is tied for 47th, as she scored a round-one 80. Cox birdied the par-four No. 1.
• Sophomore Jessica Madry turned in an 83, which was Bowling Green's third-best score of the round. Freshman Sammi Blackburn followed closely behind with an 85. Madry sits tied for 63rd, while Blackburn is tied for 77th.
• Junior Sarah Kern birdied the par-five No. 9 on her way to a round-one 86.
• Bowling Green averaged a 3.35 on par threes, which ranked fifth-best within the field.

• The Falcons will compete in round two on Saturday, before concluding play at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
