Fahey In Contention As Falcons Enter Final Day At Rio Verde Invitational

RIO VERDE, Mo. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team wrapped up the second round of play at the Rio Verde Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 24) evening. The Falcons improved on their team score from the first day by five strokes.

BGSU carded a team score of 316, and now own a score of 637 for the tournament. The Falcons sit in 14th place heading into the final round of play tomorrow. Bowling Green sits ahead of UMKC (640), Illinois State (641) and Central Michigan (650). Akron (599) leads the field.

"Our team score was better overall, but we still need to keep improving tomorrow," said head coach Stephanie Young. "We are looking forward to finishing strong."

Junior Erin Fahey remains in contention for the individual title, as she sits just five strokes off the lead. Fahey carded a 75 on the day after scoring a 73 in the first round.

After registering an 80 yesterday, freshman Nichole Cox posted an 81 during today's second round. Freshman Sammi Blackburn (85-79—164), junior Sarah Kern (86-81—167), and sophomore Jessica Madry (83—90—173) round out the BGSU lineup.
