BGSU-TENNESSEE STATE – HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was scoreless for the first four innings. During that time, the Tigers threatened in innings when Sarah Snell batted, and TSU was retired in order when she didn't.
- Snell led off the game with a walk against BG starter Kiley Sosby, then stole second. A one-out error put runners at the corners, but Sosby got a strikeout and a fly ball to right to end the inning.
- In the third inning, Snell beat out a bunt for a one-out single, then stole second once again. But, a liner to first baseman Kellie Natham left Snell stranded at second.
- Junior Alex Sorgi, after reaching base in seven of nine plate appearances on Friday, singled off of TSU starter Lauren Powell with one down in the BG first, but she ended the inning still at first base.
- BG went in order in both the second and the third, before Sorgi led off the Falcon fourth with a walk and promptly stole second. Junior Kali Holcomb's one-out infield single put runners at the corners, but junior Kaylee Parker's line drive was caught, and a fielder's choice gave Powell and the Tigers the final out.
- For the Falcons, it was death by a thousand paper cuts in the fifth frame. The Tigers, who had only one hit over the first four innings, scored twice without benefit of a hit in the fifth, before the first hit of the inning plated a third run.
- Tassy Lyles was hit by a Sosby pitch to begin the inning, then stole second and took third on a sacrifice bunt. On Maddison Clark's grounder to the right side, though, Natham fired the ball home, and catcher Logan Everett applied the tag for the second out.
- Then, however, Snell walked, and a walk to Erica O'Kane loaded the bases. Brooke Parker replaced Sosby in the circle, but Reese Weber was hit by a pitch to score one run, and Katie Schneider also got an RBI the hard way as a pitch hit her to force Snell home. Emma Colegrove's infield single scored O'Kane before a strikeout ended the inning.
- Freshman Sarah Gonzalez singled to lead off the fifth, and she advanced as far as second, but got no further.
- In the seventh inning, back-to-back singled by Snell and Kasey Cox were followed by a Weber hit-by-pitch, and Schneider's infield hit scored Snell before a Colegrove sac fly allowed Cox to tag and score.
- Powell retired the Falcons in order in the bottom of the inning, closing out the win. She gave up just three hits in her shutout victory, walking one BG batter and striking out two.
- Snell was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored, while Colegrove and Schneider each had two RBI.
- For the Falcons, Sosby took the loss, her first of the season. She allowed only one hit before leaving with two outs in the fifth, but she walked three batters and hit one.
- BGSU pitchers combined to strike out seven, but they also walked three batters and hit four.
- At the plate, Alex Sorgi had a hit and a walk in three plate appearances.
BGSU-MEMPHIS – HOW IT HAPPENED
- Memphis entered Saturday's game on a seven-game winning streak. The Tigers scored a total of 25 runs in a pair of Friday games, and against the Falcons, UofM scored in five of the six innings.
- The first two hitters reached in the opening inning for the Tigers, but Falcon starter Meredith Miller responded by getting three-straight fly balls to the left side. Freshman leftfielder Payton Hamm settled under two of them, and senior shortstop Aspen Searle drifted out onto the outfield grass to make a catch.
- In the second inning, Regan Hadley led off with a single up the middle, and a bunt single by Jessie Lamb saw Hadley get to third base when the throw to first was wild. Erin Parker's pool-cue, opposite-field poke sailed over Gonzalez and landed on the grass behind third base for a run-scoring single.
- Then, Kyler Trosclair Klatt's bunt single, her second hit in as many innings, loaded the bases, and Baylee Smith's perfectly-placed popup landed just inside the right-field line, and just beyond the reach of rightfielder Holcomb, first baseman Kaylee Parker and second baseman Sammy Dees. A run scored on the play, and a sac fly scored another run.
- BG got a run back in the third. Gonzalez led off the inning by turning on a Molly Smith pitch and depositing it beyond the left-field wall. For Gonzalez, the homer was her fourth of the season, tying her for the BGSU lead.
- Â But, the Tigers responded quickly, as Delaney Smith led off the bottom of the inning with a bunt single, and Brooke Lee then homered to make it a 5-1 game.
- Alex Sorgi lined a ball to the wall in left-center for a leadoff double in the fourth inning, and Holcomb drew a one out walk. But, with two down, Natham's hot shot was grabbed by diving third baseman Erin Parker, who was able to scramble to the third-base bag before the BG runner.
- The hosts got a fourth-inning run on a pair of walks and a single, and Memphis plated another in the fifth, on two infield hits, a sac bunt and a sac fly.
- Searle led off the sixth with a double – all three BG hits in the game went for extra bases – but was able to advance no further.
- Then, in the bottom of the inning, a walk, an infield hit and another hit-by-pitch loaded the bases. Kendall Lee's infield single scored Ashley Threatt, and Lamb walked to force home Delaney Smith and give the Tigers the win.
- Six different Memphis players had two hits apiece. Lee was one of those six players, and she had a homer and three RBI. Baylee Smith, Erin Parker and Lamb each were a perfect 2-for-2 as the Tigers banged out 14 hits.
- All three of BG's hits went for extra bases, as Gonzalez homered and both Searle and Alex Sorgi doubled.
- Smith picked up the win to improve to 9-2. She allowed one run and three hits, walking one batter and striking out five.
- Miller suffered the loss to fall to 6-4 on the year. She allowed five runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out one.
- Sosby threw two innings of relief, allowing four runs and six hits.
