Aliyah Gustafson Named MAC Field Athlete Of The Week

Cleveland, Ohio – Redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson was named the Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week after winning both the discus and the shot put at the Miami Duals Friday.

Gustafson also placed second in the hammer throw with a new personal best distance of 58.21m (191-0). She ranks second in the MAC this year and her distance places her fourth in school history. She also threw the shot put 16.47m (54-0.5), which accounts for the second-best performance of her career, as well as in school history. No other thrower in the conference has come within a meter of her effort this year.

Finally, Gustafson won the discus with a distance of 50.79m (166-8). She is one of just three women in the MAC to throw the discus at least 50 meters in two separate meets this year.

It is the first time during the 2018 outdoor season in which Gustafson has been named MAC Field Athlete of the Week. She also earned the honor once during the indoor season.
