
Tennis to Face Eastern Michigan in 2018 MAC Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – After garnering a 5-3 record in Mid-American Conference play this season in addition to a 13-8 mark overall, the Bowling Green tennis program earned the No. 4 seed in the 2018 MAC Women's Tennis Championship. The Falcons will face off in the quarterfinals against No. 5 seed Eastern Michigan on Friday, April 27 at 10 a.m.
The entirety of the tournament will take place in Muncie, Ind. at host school Ball State at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. In the case of inclement weather, matches will be played at the Muncie YMCA NW, while entrance to the tournament is free for all fans. The event will also be broadcast on ESPN3 for fans unable to attend.

If the Falcons are to defeat Eastern Michigan on Friday, they will advance to the semifinals and face No. 1 seed Buffalo in a 10 a.m. first serve on Saturday, April 28. The MAC Championship will then take place on Sunday, April 29 at Noon.
ABOUT LAST WEEKEND
The Falcons are coming off of a strong win against Western Michigan, where they downed the Broncos 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons were able to clinch the doubles point by wins on courts two and three, prior to earning three singles victories for the win. Junior Polina Radeva was able to rebound from a setback in the first set to clinch her match in three, while freshman Marta Bettinelli marked a win in straight sets. To seal the Bowling Green victory, junior Vanesa Pardo earned her second straight win at the No. 4 singles position with a three-set comeback.
SEASONAL STANDOUTS
The 2018 season has been a successful one for the Falcons, culminating in the team's first appearance in the MAC Championship since 2014. The Bowling Green tennis program completed the season with an outstanding home record of 8-1 at the Perrysburg Tennis Center, while the overall record of 13-8 is the program's winningest season since a 17-5 mark in the 2013 campaign. Additionally, the Falcons earned its first win over Ball State since 2013, first win over Akron since 2014, and first win at Western Michigan since 2013. The Falcons started off the season with a 3-0 record as well as a 3-0 start to MAC play, and also went on a season-best five match win streak from March 16-30.

By earning a pair of doubles victories for the point, in addition to singles wins on courts one through three, the Falcons were able to tack up another win on the season by a 4-3 margin. Junior Paula Comella defeated EMU's Ani Gogvadze at No. 1, junior Radeva defeated Marie Mayerova at No. 2, and sophomore Marharita-Sophia Tavpash defeated Eagle Giuliana Ansaloni at No. 3, all in straight set matches.
