April 24, 2018 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt junior Rachel Walny has been named the Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week after breaking BGSU's school record in the 10,000 over the weekend.
Walny posted the top time in the MAC this year in the 10,000 at 33:48.22 at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays. Walny's time was seven seconds faster than her previous school record from a year ago, when she qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the event. She leads the conference by almost 29 seconds in the event and sits sixth on the East qualifying list.
It marks the second consecutive week in which a Bowling Green track and field student-athlete was recognized as a MAC Athlete of the Week. Aliyah Gustafson was the MAC Field Athlete of the Week after winning the discus and shot put at the Miami Duals a week ago.
