Rachel Walny Named Google Cloud Academic All-District

Bowling Green, Ohio – Redshirt junior Rachel Walny has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country team, recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Selections are made by members of the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).
Walny graduated with a 3.99 grade point average in exercise science and is currently in her first year working on a graduate degree in kinesiology.
In competition, Walny is one of the nation's top distance runners. She placed second at the MAC Championships in the 10,000m and finished fifth at NCAA Regionals, qualifying for the field of 24 at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships for the second consecutive year. Walny is the school record holder in the event, posting the five fastest times in school history.
Walny was one of 10 recipients in District 5, which encompasses at NCAA Division I track and field athletes in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Four recipients were selected from the Mid-American Conference, while the Big Ten earned three selections.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with first and second-team Academic All-America honorees announced in June.
