Athletics Hall Of Famer Tom Stubbs Passes Away

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics mourns the passing of graduate and longtime swim/dive coach Tom Stubbs on May 25. He was 94 years old.
Stubbs graduated from Bowling Green with a bachelor's degree in education in 1949. He served his country during World War Two after his induction to the US Army in 1943. Following officers training school in 1944, he was a first lieutenant in the Army Air Force and served in the Japanese occupation.
In 1963, Stubbs and his family returned to Bowling Green to become the head swimming coach and served for 18 years as both the men's and women's coach. He also co-found the BG Swim Club in 1965. He coached 30+ All-Americans at BGSU and produced seven MAC Championships. Stubbs also served two terms on the NCAA Swimming Rules Committee and was the head referee at four NCAA Championships.
He was inducted into the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.
Besides his coaching career, Stubbs was involved in the BGSU President's Club, The Falcon Club, The Varsity Letterman's Club, the Swimming and Diving Alumni Association, the BGSU Retirees Associations, the BG Parks and Recreation Board and Foundation, to name just a few.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 9 at 11 am at Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St.
