
Bowling Green Holds Early Lead To Split Series With Bemidji State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. – The No 12 ranked (No. 8 in USA Today poll) Bowling Green State University hockey team split their series on Friday (Jan. 4) night defeating Bemidji State in game two by a final score of three to one. The Falcons scored three times on 24 shots on goal. Bowling Green put the pressure on early as Brandon Kruse and Taylor Schneider would find the back of the net in the opening six minutes of the first period. Bemidji State would score on a power play goal right before the end of the first. This would remain our score until Connor Ford would score a late empty net goal to insure the game for BGSU. This victory was win number 160 for BGSU head coach Chris Bergeron, who is now tied with former Falcons head coach Ron Mason for second all-time in wins. The Falcons continue WCHA play next weekend as they travel to Houghton. Mich. for a two game series against the Huskies of Michigan Tech University (Jan. 11-12). Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7:07 pm in John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

- Bowling Green would get on the board first as Brandon Kruse would take a beautiful crossing pass from Frederic Letourneau and send it in right in front. Letourneau would get the lone assist. This just 2:13 into the game.
- Taylor Schneider would extend the Falcons lead to two 5:30 into the first period. He would be assisted by John Schilling and Jacob Dalton.
- Bemidji State would answer with a power play goal with just five seconds left in the first period as Justin Baudry would score. Aaron Miller and Brendan Harris would pick up assists.
- The game would not see another goal until 19:22 into the third period as Connor Ford would score an empty net goal to insure it for Bowling Green in the final minutes. Ford scored off a crossing pass from Stephen Baylis.
Falcon Stat Facts
- Tonight's victory was BGSU head coach Chris Bergeron's 160th at the helm of the Orange and Brown. He is now tied with former Bowling Green head coach Ron Mason for second all-time in program wins behind the bench.
- Upon tonight's victory, the Bowling Green Falcons now sit alone in first place in the WCHA standings with 31 points in the league.
- John Schilling's assist tonight is his first official point since an injury sidelined him in November. He has six points so far on the season.
- Brandon Kruse's goal this evening brought his point total to 26 on the season. This remains the team high and has him currently sitting fifth place in the nation.
- Connor Ford's empty net goal was his ninth tally of the 2018-19 campaign. He is now tied with Max Johnson for second in team goals.
- Taylor Schneider tallies the game-winning-goal in tonight's contest. He his currently second among the Falcon freshmen in points with seven so far this season.
