>>FALCONS ON TAP
- The No. 10 ranked Bowling Green State University hockey team will travel to Houghton, Michigan this weekend to face-off with conference rival Michigan Tech for a two game series.
- Both games will take place in the John J. MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Falcons and Huskies will face-off for game one on Friday, Jan. 11 at 7:07 pm, and then again the following night on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7:07 pm.
- This is the first and only time the Falcons and Huskies will face-off for a two game series during the 2018-19 regular season. The two squads would have to cross paths again in the post season as they have many times in the past.
>>VERSUS MICHIGAN TECH
- All-time, Michigan Tech holds the advantage over Bowling Green by a 17-12-4 margin. A tough opponent in recent years, the Falcons have gone 8-10-3 against the Huskies since joining the WCHA.
- The match up has emerged as a true conference rivalry, with the two schools meeting four times in the post-season since the realignment. Most recently Michigan Tech defeated Bowling Green in overtime of the 2017 WCHA Tournament Championship Game.
- Last season, the Falcons and Huskies met a total of five times with Bowling Green winning the season series 3-1-1. Most notable, last season saw Falcons down Michigan Tech in the Great Lakes Invitational Championship in a 4-1 final at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich. In goal, Eric Dop withstood 29 saves, including a game-high of 12 in the opening period of play, and only allowed one goal against on the night. Lukas Craggs tallied an assist on both Ford and Schilling's goals against Michigan Tech, leading Bowling Green with five points in the two games of the GLI, earning him the title of Great Lakes Invitational MVP.
>>LAST TIME OUT
- Bowling Green enters this series following a split of their last series with Bemidji State. The Falcons fell in game one of their two game series on Thursday (Jan. 3) night by a final score of 3-2. The Falcons scored twice on 24 shots on goal.
- Bowling Green struggled to find their game early in the contest as Lukas Craggs would find the back of the net in the second period.
- BGSU added a sixth skater and cut the Bemidji State lead to one with just a minute and a half left in the game as Tim Theocharidis would tally another for BGSU, netting the final result.
- Bowling Green then defeated Bemidji State in game two of the series on Friday (Jan.4) by a final score of 3-1. The Falcons scored three times on 24 shots on goal.
- Bowling Green put the pressure on early as Brandon Kruse and Taylor Schneider would find the back of the net in the opening six minutes of the first period.
- Bemidji State would score on a power play goal right before the end of the first. This would remain our score until Connor Ford would score a late empty net goal to insure the game for BGSU.
- Friday's (Jan.4) victory was win number 160 for BGSU head coach Chris Bergeron, who is now tied with former Falcons head coach Ron Mason for second all-time in wins. Â
>>STATISTICAL STANDOUTS
- Bowling Green continues to sit alone in second place in the WCHA standings with 31 points. The Falcons spent about 24 hours in first place before Minnesota State reclaimed the top spot, sweeping Michigan Tech. The Falcons and Mavericks are separated by just two points in the standings.
- BGSU continues to bolster one of college hockey's strongest team defenses sitting No. 1, entering this series with the lowest goals-against-per-game average in the country (1.76). Behind them, junior Ryan Bednard remains the fourth best goaltender in the country with a matching goals-against average of 1.76.
- Sophomore Brandon Kruse tallied a goal in Friday (Jan. 4) night's win over Bemidji State. He remains tied for fifth in the nation in scoring with 26 points on the current campaign. Kruse has held point streaks this season of six games and seven games respectively. Bowling Green enters this series tenth in team offense, outscoring opponents 75 to 37.
>>LUKAS LIGHTS THE LAMP
- Lukas Craggs has been named National Player of the Month for December, the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) announced Monday (Jan. 7).
- Lukas Craggs led the attack for Bowling Green in the month December. Over six games in the month, Craggs recorded six goals and two assists for eight total points. He had three game-winning goals and was a plus-nine throughout the month. Craggs' six goals were tied for most in the country in December.
- Over his 21 games this season, Craggs has posted 13 goals, good for second in the WCHA and tied for third in the NCAA. He also has a league best plus-20 rating. His efforts against Minnesota State earned him WCHA Forward of the Week honors (Dec. 17), before also being awarded WCHA Forward of the Month (Jan. 4).
- Lukas Craggs is the second member of the Falcon hockey program to be named National Player of the Month by the HCA this season, as Max Johnson won the award for October.
>>NATIONALLY RANKED
- Following their sweep of Minnesota State, and split with Bemidji State, the Bowling Green Falcons have risen back into the top ten sitting No. 10 in the most recent USCHO.com poll (Jan. 7).
- With series victories over Minnesota State, Western Michigan and Ohio State, Bowling Green now holds a 5-0-1 record this season when the opponent was ranked in the top 20 at the time of the contest. The Falcons have outscored those opponents 28-9.
 >>PRESEASON POLLS PEG BOWLING GREEN
- Bowling Green was voted to finish second overall in the UAHhockey.com WCHA Media preseason poll, and third in the 2018 Mankato Free Press preseason poll.
- Junior Falcon defenseman Alec Rauhauser was voted First Team All-WCHA by both the media and the coaches. Rauhuaser's contributions to the 2017-18 campaign included leading the squad with 39 points by nine goals and a team-leading 30 assists. The 39 points marked the most by a single Falcon since the 2008-09 season.Â
- Three more Falcons were voted Second Team All-WCHA by the media. Sophomore forward Brandon Kruse, senior defenseman Chris Pohlkamp and junior goaltender Ryan Bednard all made the cut.
>>2018-19 FALCON HOCKEY OUTLOOK
- For the upcoming season, the Falcons will look to return 12 of 16 forwards, all seven defensemen, and all three goaltenders from the 2017-18 campaign that saw the Falcons claim a Great Lakes Invitational Championship.
- Bowling Green garnered 159 points in the media preseason poll, and 76 points in the coaches'. The Falcons also had one vote for the top finish on the year in the media preseason poll.

 >>COMING INTO THIS SEASON
- With an overall record of 23-12-6 in 2017-18, it marked the Falcons' fourth consecutive 20+ win season and fifth straight winning season. Bowling Green had records 21-18-2 in the 2016-17 campaign, 22-14-6 in the 2015-16 campaign, and a 23-11-5 record in the 2014-15 season. Last year was the 22nd season that the Falcons have tallied a 20-plus win season.
- By competing in the WCHA Championship at the end of the 2016-17 season, it marked Bowling Green's first conference championship appearance since 1988.
