MATT FANNON INTERVIEW (Oct. 16, 2019)
FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS
• BGSU is 6-0-0 in the MAC for just the second time in school history, and the second time in as many years. Last year's team got off to a school-record 8-0-0 start in MAC play, winning the league regular-season crown with a 10-1-0 record.Â
• In the last 20 matches (both regular-season and tournament) vs. MAC foes, the Falcons have lost just once. BGSU is 18-1-1 against the MAC since the start of the 2018 season.
• BGSU is 16-1-1 in all home matches (regular-season and tournament) against MAC opposition since Matt Fannon came to BG prior to the 2017 season. The Falcons' only home loss to a conference foe in that stretch came to Sunday's opponent, Ball State, in Fannon's first-ever MAC matchup (Sept. 22, 2017).
• In fact, since Fannon assumed the helm, the Falcons are 0-1-1 against Ball State at Cochrane Stadium, and 16-0-0 vs. all other MAC opponents.
• BGSU checks in at No. 10 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region poll, marking the Falcons' first appearance in the poll this season. BG is one spot behind Ball State in this week's poll.

THE OPPONENTS
• Miami enters Friday's BGSU match with an overall record of 3-9-1, and the RedHawks are 2-3-1 in MAC play. Miami picked up a 1-1 tie on the road against Northern Illinois Sunday to snap a two-match losing streak. MU is 1-4-0 at home and 2-5-1 on the road this year to date. In MAC play, the 'Hawks are 1-2-0 in Oxford and 1-1-1 away from home. Olivia Winnett leads the team with three goals and six points, while Lyda Bogdanovitch has five points, including a pair of goals. Izzie Vaccari has played in 12 of the 13 matches in goal and has 78 saves and a goals-against average of 1.15. Head coach Courtney Sirmans, in her second season in Oxford, has 19 freshman or sophomores on the 22-player roster. Last season, the RedHawks finished with records of 3-14-1 overall and 1-10-0 in the MAC.
• Ball State is 11-3-0 on the year, and the Cardinals are 5-1-0 in the MAC heading into a Friday match at Toledo. BSU has won five consecutive matches, including a 1-0 home win over Northern Illinois and a 2-1, double-overtime road victory against Western Michigan last weekend. The Cards are 7-1-0 at home and 4-2-0 on the road (including a 3-0-0 road record in the MAC) this season to date. Nicky Potts has team-high totals of five goals and 12 points, and no fewer than five of her teammates have scored at least eight points this year. That quintet includes Grace Alsop and Tatiana Hawkins-Dabney, each of whom have four goals, and Tatiana Mason, who has a BSU-best five assists. Tristin Stuteville has played in 13 of the 14 matches in goal, and has 47 saves and a GAA of just 0.69. The Cardinals, guided by first-year head coach Josh Rife, went 14-3-3 overall and 8-2-1 in MAC play a year ago. Last year's club did not lose a single match after Sept. 28.
THE SERIES
• BGSU trails Miami, 13-9-3, in the all-time series, but the Falcons are unbeaten in the last three meetings. Last year, BG captured a 2-0 road win to open the MAC schedule. Chelsee Washington scored less than two minutes into the match, while Nikki Cox doubled BG's lead midway through the second half in that win. Two years ago, in the teams' last meeting at Cochrane Stadium, the Falcons picked up a 4-1 win to snap an eight-match series winless streak. BGSU is 5-5-1 in home matches, 4-7-2 on the road and 0-1-0 in neutral-site contests vs. the RedHawks.
• The Falcons trail Ball State, 14-4-4, in the all-time series, but BGSU went 1-0-1 vs. the Cardinals last season. BGSU picked up a 3-0 win in the regular-season meeting in Muncie, for the team's first win over the Cards since 2008. Washington scored two first-half goals, with the first coming just over three minutes into the match, to pace the Falcons. The teams met again in the MAC Tournament final at Cochrane Stadium, and battled to a 1-1, double-overtime draw, before the Falcons advanced via penalty kicks. Two years ago, in the teams' last regular-season match at Cochrane, the Cardinals pulled out a 2-1 win. That remains BGSU's only home loss to a MAC team in the Matt Fannon Era. BG is 2-7-1 at home and 2-7-3 on the road vs. the Cardinals through the years.
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the BSU match, the Falcons will finish the regular season with three road matches. BG will head to the MAC's "West Coast" to face Northern Illinois on Thursday, Oct. 24. That match will begin at 7:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. Eastern) in DeKalb, Ill.
• Then, the Brown and Orange will head to Kalamazoo, Mich., to meet Western Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 27. That contest will begin at 1:00 p.m. BGSU will end the regular-season schedule with a Halloween afternoon match at Toledo, and the MAC Tournament will begin with quarterfinal-round matches on Sunday, Nov. 3, at campus sites.
